She is doing really well considering the short period of time you've been working with her. I'm sure she headed for a very nice career!!!
Aye Mates,
In a recent thread "LEXIE "Click / Hold", I shared some of me own method and equipment used to "HOLD" condition a K9. I used LEXIE (a 10 month old YLF as an example). I stressed that me method of tethering the K9 was to assure safety of the K9 and to isolate their mobility during short sessions of betwixt 5 to 10 minutes in duration. I introduce K9's to the table early so that they gain confidence and feel safe being on that surface. I also noted the importance of reading the dog for signs of stress and for the trainer to "flex" in meeting the needs of the individual K9. I had observed that LEXIE had a liking for the paint roller and I decided to use her affinity for the roller in promoting LEXIE to engage in "WALKING HOLD" whilst retaining the roller and to use any momentum garnered in springboarding to otjer items held during "WALKING HOLD". This is not the usual order in which I train a K9 for a conditioned HOLD, rather, it was my "flexing" to meet the needs of the individual K9 (LEXIE having what I read as a particularly soft demeanor). The following photos were taken within the first two sessions of "HOLD" conditioning following me having LEXIE doing "WALKING HOLD" on lead whilst retaining the paint roller in her mouth. NOTE; dysfunctional rolling / hardmouthing of items held were virtually eliminated during this process.
LEXIE with the roller SIT'S contently holding this preferential item in her mouth. Lots of positive exchange of the roller back and forth betwixt meself and LEX with verbal praise and positive human contact being the reward built trust and confidence in LEX and the momentum I was seeking to build.
LEXIE HOLDING a hex bumper, an extension of her earlier HOLD of the paint roller. I like the configuration of the hex bumper in promoting proper carry and discouragement of dysfunctional hardmouthing and rolling of the bumper. Once again, lots of drilling and exchange of the bumper with the commands HOLD and GIVE properly timed result in great benefits in development of those sequences within a properly executed retrieve. Again, momentum gained.
LEXIE HOLDING a bird bumper, just another item in a chain of objects she will HOLD as we progress toward FORCE FETCH conditioning and the HOLD / CARRY of real birds that will become a high value reward and a way of life for LEXIE as a working / hunting gun dog.
Great progress made in very few sessions, much work still to accomplish. :-)
Enjoy ye retrievers and grand training to ye all.
Cheers,

Nice approach. And she's a pretty girl, too.
