    Wedding project!

Jake and I are getting married next fall and we are starting work on some of the DIY projects for our wedding. We are getting married in a barn, so one of the things Jake has been wanting to do is get a slice of wood, dry it and engrave or paint our names and the wedding date on it. Then it will be displayed at the wedding and eventually at our house. Well, Jake got a new job (yay!!! Working for a local game farm) and they had a bunch of downed trees. He just sent me this picture to show me what he salvaged! Hopefully we can cut a bunch of pieces and dry them slowly to prevent cracking and distortion, and we will have a beautiful wedding decoration!

Cool idea! I love the dark heartwood contrast with the lighter outer layer. A few years ago I was looking for wood buttons to put on a pillow cover and found these lovely juniper buttons on etsy- a finish with mineral oil really brings out the grain and contrasts. These are an example of how they looked: Handmade Sunburst Juniper Wooden buttons 4 Buttons by gypsytree

Yay for Jake's new job, too! And nice that he's thinking ahead and looking around for things you could use.

What is that wood, walnut? It's very dark. Google up how to dry and preserve without cracking. It will be hard if the cookies are cut too thin. Neat idea. Congrats on the new job too.

We have been looking into that. They need to dry very slow to prevent cracking. There is also a treatment you can do, but I have to order it online, so I will try a few without the treatment to see if it works....if not, we learned something!

Even if you get cracks, years later you can say each one was a bump in the road but you're still together.

The grain is all those pieces should work great for what you're going to do. I really like the shape of the middle piece!!

I was thinking the same. It has an elongated heart shape to it.
