Best frozen food to use as a cold pack.

I'm going with cranberries. The bag easily conforms to all areas of the dog just like peas but they don't need to be sanitary because I have no intention of eating them.

    What do you use?

I generally just fill a ziplock bag with crushed ice. I also have to big cold packs from my shoulder surgery.

Fortunately, have not had to use an ice pack on any of the dogs.

Peas were always my go to. Although I do have those cold gel packs and even have one that is like a blanket, it is 1 foot wide by 2 foot long. When I sprained my ankle years ago I could wrap my whole ankle in it.

I usually use peas, but I like peas, so maybe cranberries next time.

Wild blueberries are an even better shape than peas, but they defrost too quickly

Why can't you eat them after you've used it as an ice pack? Is it because you're not supposed to defrost and refreeze things?

I have a few ice packs in my freezer so I've never had to use fruit or veggie packs before. Still good to know if I'm ever in a pinch though!

Peas, because they conform to shapes very easily, and i have NO intention of eating them, so not at all worried about thaw/freeze/thaw, and whether they get a little mushy.
cranberries i hadn't even thought of, and don't remember seeing in the grocery stores, and blueberries would be eaten too often to remain on standby in the freezer.

I have some ice packs that are sectioned, like little ice cubes, but flexible, so I can use those, or corn or peas. I don't have any that stay flexible when frozen.

Scoutpout, you can get a bag of cranberries in the produce section and throw them in the freezer. I usually have a bag or 2 that I pick up around Thanksgiving or Christmas and freeze. I'm not sure why, since we don't eat that many cranberries usually. Hmmm, now I know what I can do with that bag I have in the freezer! Actually, I have a recipe for gingerbread that you put cranberries in but I'm the only one who eats it here, so... I guess I'm prepared just in case.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

it is surprising what is readily available at grocery stores in the US vs up here in Canada. when i'm on my trips to the states, i always go to a grocery store or 2 and stock up on what i'm allowed to bring back thats not available up here.

we just got a new grocery store, Farmboy, they kind of remind me of a FreshMarket, lots of organic, lots of hot/cold prepared food, not your "normal" grocery store.

Peas are cheaper if you have to toss them, right?
Otherwise I'm going to give one of my clients crap for getting into the cranberry market...
