What an ingenious idea, the mowed path. It may be a common thing to do when training but this is all new to me. REV has done so well and is looking brilliant.

SHR CHURN CREEK'S EL DIABLO NUTMEG STATE REVOLUTION JH - "REV" is a high octane, just turned 2 years old black male Labrador Retriever that has qualified in 8 of 8 licensed hunt tests in which he has been entered. We continue to train diligently and frequently toward our goal of campaigning him for his HRC SEASONED and AKC SENIOR HUNTER TITLES. REV has a good start toward his next training objectives, we continue to train on multiple marked retrieves on land and water, diversion birds, steadyness, walk up hunts and classic delivery to hand. Continuing work on handling and initial efforts focused on simple blind retrieves have been introduced.
REV is worked oFf lead on his heeling skills by his owner as they walk down a mown pathway we use to promote the taking of straight lines when sent on retrieve.
REV accelerates off of the line when sent by his owner / handler on a single marked retrieve.
REV has learned to stop remotely on a whistle signal, and face / focus on the handler, and take both back and over casts as is required by the set up. Again, the mown pathway is used to reinforce the taking straight lines when the retriever is sent on retrieve or cast.
REV is taking a BACK cast from the remote SIT position and rotates in the correct direction based on the gestural cue projected by his owner / handler. We start at very short distances and incrementally stretch them out to a "seeded" pile, this asures success and we build confidence and trust betwixt our K9 / handler team.
REV on return with a bird bumper and maintaining a nice straight line whilst making the retrieve.
REV has used the mowed pathway to return to his owner to deliver the bird to hand.
The mowed pathway is a grand tool for promoting nice, clean, straight lines taken and increase self comfidence in ye K9 trainees. Give it a try.
Grand training to ye and enjoy ye retrievers.
Cheers,
THE DOG WHISTLER
