Dog uncontrollably shaking, can't get up!

    Hi all,

I woke up to my 1.5 year old lab, shaking and unable to get up. I am not sure when it started, but it continued for 3-5 minutes. He wasn't foaming at the mouth, but his muscles were sporadically shaking (not violently fast, just every two seconds or so). I tried to hold him down to make sure he didn't get hurt, and he eventually stopped. He is totally fine now. It almost looked like his body woke up before his mind and he could't get himself up. I am very worried. Going to take him to the vet later today. Anyone experience something like this?

    Thank you for you help.

Have no experience with this. Agree with Halcyon, could have been a seizure. Best to go to the Vet. Hoping it's nothing but coming out of a deep sleep. Hope you update.

Sounds like a seizure, Call your vets office and tell them what happened they should get you in ASAP to see how he is and if there's anything else going on with him.

My husband suggested an insect bite. This is the time when the insects come after stuff and your dog is stuff to them.

Just food for thought. Be safe, look forward to hearing what the outcome is. Hopefully its nothing.

Just went to the vet, he is getting his blood work done. The vet said that given the description, he definitely had a seizure As long as it only happen once or twice a year, it's not a big deal. If it becomes a more re-current thing that means he has epilepsy, and we are going to do something more serious about it. For now, there is just nothing to do but observe. He is not on any meds, we did just switch his food a week ago - I wonder if that has to do with something. But he is acting like his old goofy self at the vet, trying to make friends with everyone, having the time of his life. I think if he knew that a seizure will get him a trip to the vet, he'd do it more often
