Maybe to accommodate shipping from a non-Canadian warehouse?
This morning when I got out of the shower Ram was in the cats room looking for dessert after breakfast, so I was looking for something on Amazon.ca (and comparing the exact same items on Amazon.com) to solve this issue.
Sorry, but the price difference between .ca and .com has left me feeling a little bit insulted and kind of upset. Hope that wasn't too harsh, sorry.

Maybe to accommodate shipping from a non-Canadian warehouse?

Amazon allows private business or people etc to sell items on their website for whatever price they want. When I search for items I generally only buy items that are "Fullfilled" by Amazon. Your first item is a perfect example.
In the US it is sold by a company and fullfilled by Amazon so it's cheaper. In Canada it is strictly sold by 3rd party company and the price is ridiculous.
This can even happen when looking for items in the Canada store. Lets say you are buying a radio. Fullfilled by Amazon might sell it for $20 but there will be a link to more prices and 3rd party companies will try to sell it for 3x the price.

So if you order from Amazon.com do you pay the US price?

You are charged in US funds and run the risk depending on who they ship through in getting really nailed hard with a Customs Clearing Fee. UPS is the main offender while rarely do you see one from USPS. This charge can sometimes double your cost of an item.
Ouch!

Yup, like Woody says....same (not usually quite as bad) with FedEx. If you can at all get the seller to ship via Unites States Postal Service, you won't have brokerage fees to pay, and chances are pretty good that you're not going to get dinged with Duty and Import charges (still happens sometimes...you have to go pay at the post office before they'll give you your item). Unfortunately on Amazon you don't get a lot of say in how they ship.
Depending on where you live, it might be easier to have it shipped to a US address at the border, and go pick it up yourself There are businesses in most towns/cities that offer a "ship to" address for just that purpose...
my SIL lives in the US, and my parents are back and forth 2x a year, so i try to time online shopping for when they will be coming back home from visiting, have the items sent to my SIL, and parents bring them back in their van. Worst case i can ship to my SIL and she will re-send to me via USPS (don't like to bother her very often for that though!)

Even Ebay has gotten in on the big rip off. Some if not a large amount of US sellers are adding an import fee to their items. So they will sell a $20 radio with $5 Shipping plus $15 Import Fees mandatory. I used to love looking for stuff on Ebay but I don't even bother anymore.
