Although I vaguely noticed when DH got up, I myself slept in until my alarm went off (6:40 am). I was pleasantly surprised, as Little Miss 5:45 am (aka Kimber) was being quiet in her crate. I got up and let her out of the crate, and then we both went into the kitchen by her food bucket. I scooped up a serving and poured it into her bowl, and she trotted over to the door, just as we've done every morning for almost 9 years. As soon as the sound of kibble hitting the bowl was heard, DH came hurrying out of his office. "I already fed her breakfast!" He exclaimed. "I thought if I fed her when I got up, she'd be quiet when I put her back in the crate so you could sleep."
At this point, Kimber came trotting back to the kitchen to see what the hold up was. "Is that true, Kimber? Did you already have breakfast?" I asked her. She smiled and wagged... until I put the dish back on the counter, where it would stay until her lunch time. Then, the tail drooped, the mouth closed, and the puppy eyes came out.
But I'm sooo hungry! And you were going to feed me!
"No second breakfasts for you, chunky monkey," I said. She gave me a long, measuring look, and then flounced out of the room. No kibble, no love. Ha!

Can just visualize the look, LOL.
It's happened a couple of times here. Somehow the furkids never tell us they have already eaten and act as if they haven't had a meal in days. Little stinkers.
It's happened here a few times. When I get up, it doesn't matter if the kids fed the dogs already, Sprockette is always OMG you're up, feed me! Sometimes I forget to ask if anyone's fed the beasts, and Ta-Da! Second breakfast.....
I know that face all to well! We had to put up a small dry erase board on the fridge so we wouldn't double feed. LOL! Kain would eat till he passed out if he could.
I can pretty much count on no one feeding the dogs other than me so that doesn't happen around here. My 2 would love to find themselves in that situation. Although Chase never figured this out, Lark discovered that I left the bag of food unzipped a time or two. Now she always checks after every meal, hoping she can help herself to seconds!

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”
