Another good day, and tried Dock Diving!

Chloe had another good day at the trial - earned UDX leg #11 (or #1 on the quest for a UDX2, LOL), and picked up some more OTCH points with an outstanding 198.5 in Utility which was 2nd. A good friend and training buddy with her OTCH Toller got 1st with a 199. Most shows I’ve been to the 198.5 would have easily won the class.

Then after, as a reward, Chloe and Sassy tried Dock Diving (Cookie stayed home as she had gone yesterday). They both were eager, and loved it, but Chloe has no aptitude - she tends to “plop” into the water after stopping at the end of the platform. That might be partially because she can’t push off with her bad foot, but I think it’s possibly just her. Sass on the other hand was getting great extension and pushing off well. She cleared 8’9 from a standstill (she was hesitating when she got to the end, which I’m told is typical for novice dogs). It’s a shame we don’t have anywhere close by to practice as I think she might have a future - but the closest places are 3 hours away, so she might have to wait until this cluster next year to try again.

You and Chloe are on a roll!!! Good job!

I'm going to check out dock diving in two weeks. I'm to take Sophie, but doubt she will do it. Brooks won't be six months old yet, so he can't play!

Where are you going? There were a couple dogs there that just wouldn’t jump, LOL.

    Congrats!

It can take awhile for dogs to get the hang of Dock Diving. pen's first season she was pretty "flat" (good jumping but not getting any height - so short jumps). 8.9' on a first go at it is really great! Maybe there will be more in your area over the next few years, i find in the last 3 years the number of opportunities locally has gone up exponentially. From one or two a year (unless you drove out) to this year there must have been 8 (especially if one was game to drive out 45 minutes).

Brooks may be welcomed to go in from the ramp and swim around as an introduction, especially if he schmoozes on the people running it, if there is some down time. At least thats the way it was with Splash Dogs, I don't know about Dock Dogs.

The way it worked at this one, was for $15 you got a few minutes (not sure how long - 10 maybe?) to let your dog try it, including having them go from a ramp a couple times and then moving up to the platform once they were ready for that. If you knew what you were doing, you could go for competition legs if you wanted. Not sure if the price was the same as we were just doing the intro. I think they were trying to build up interest and introduce more people to it. There were a couple people going for titles, but lots of folks like us who just wanted to try it.

This was run through North American Diving Dogs which is partnering with the AKC (AKC will recognize titles earned through this).
