Yeah I would love to do SAR with a future dog someday, and I recently learned the same thing about the wilderness training involved for the human, lol. I would possibly still consider it at some point, if I ever ended up with the right dog who I really thought would be awesome and would enjoy it. I just think it is so cool hearing the stories about dogs finding missing kids, the 9/11 dogs, etc. And I love doing nosework sports and therapy dog visits with Tux, so I figured SAR is kind of a combination - helping people and watching a dog use their nose. Maybe someday. If I was really motivated I'd start going to meetings and training sessions now just on my own to learn more, we have to local SAR groups. My nosework trainer has gone to some of their training sessions and recently went to Indiana for a weekend of SAR training. I don't know if she is actually planning to certify any of her own current dogs though.
