    Pet safe Safety pins?

Anyone know of a good safety pin that can be used that is safe around pets?

I am not trying to make this a political thread and do not want it to devolve in one. Just with all the violence happening now from trump supporters, no not all of them, but let face it, its happening a lot of racism, sexism has grown up in america from the recent election. People are afraid. You can read all the reports online, then me being a large white man who I already know my size and presence give people pause. I think most of the regulars already know, I am 6' 4" 240lbs build like a line backer. I have long hair and a sporting a graying goatee I typically wear jeans and black leather when not at work. However, I am far from my grizzly exterior as you know as well.

Anyway, I think it would be a good idea especially as a white man for me to wear a safety pin for the safety pin movement, to let those that might worry and let them know I am a safe place. Nothing bad will happen while I am around. I am not a racist, anti-semite, or sexist. #safetypin

However, I do not want the safety pin to come loose, hurt Hemi, he will be curious as to whats this thing on your shirt dad. So I am looking for a pet safe safety pin. I am not sure if baby safe pins would work? If there is something a little better? Again, single guy, never had a kid, haven't used a safety pin in 15 years. This is not something I would even have in my house.

Again, please don't make this political, people on both side are doing bad things right now. I just honestly want to know about safety pins.

I don't have safety pin suggestions, but wanted to say I <3 you and Hemi.

No safety pin info here, either....you're good people, Jeff!

I ordered a button from etsy that says Trump is not my president (small black button, name in red). Passive protest.

I live in a D state and tend to get along with everyone....but a few friends and I agree that we're seeing some suspicious glances now when we say "good morning" or smile. I'm not used to people feeling weird in my presence and feel the need to announce, as you do, that I'm, as you put it, safe. Or at least not hateful. (I'm an old white lady, dressed in jeans when out and about in the parks, sometimes with the dogs, and tend to smile a lot if it seems appropriate...and I'm only 5'4", so not really threatening looking....but I'm definitely getting a different reaction from strangers I meet who aren't fellow pale people.)

I hadn't heard of the safety pin movement....will check it out.

I think that might find some products that have extra locking features or extra safety features if you look for "baby proof" or for diaper pins.

Here's a few examples I found if this is what you had in mind:

I hadn't heard of the safety pin movement either, interesting. I wonder how many of those who it's meant to signify something to know what it means? I'll have to read those articles. I haven't gotten any strange looks but I fall into the old white lady demographic, too, so threatening? I don't think so. Would people assume they know how I voted based upon my looks? Could be but then, they don't know me.

I'd say to give diaper pins a try. If they're supposed to be safe for babies up until they're potty trained at 2 or 3 years of age, that's probably the safest you'll find.

ETA: Now to go find a safety pin....

My first thought was a baby diaper pin.

How about something like this: 6-Color Set Extra-LARGE 4" Steel Safety Pins - Blankets, Skirts, Kilts, Crafts | eBay

Or for the more formal look: Christmas Gifts Bling Jewelry Surgical Steel Crystal Safety Pin Brooch | eBay

I use regular safety pins when pinning a quilt for quilting and they stay closed very well, just not this large. Set of 10 Heavy Duty Giant 5" Stainless Steel Safety Pins - Kilts, Saddle, Skirt | eBay

I know what the pin is for. I live in Portland (Oregon) and am very much in the middle of everything. Good for you!

I would just treat the pin like your car keys. Put it on before going out, take it off and put it near the keys when you get home. I keep safety pins in a jar with a lid on a shelf above my chest freezer. You could put some sort of a container on your counter and put keys and the pin in there, so you don't forget the pin when you go out.

Had not heard of this pin idea, so let me understand; we have protesters stopping traffic, breaking windows, and worse, so you want to wear a sign that says "don't hurt me, I'm with you".
Maybe I can order a button that says "Trump is my president".

First, I think that any protester would have been well-advised to remember what yesterday was, and to honor those that gave them the right to march in the streets!
And if they're still so unhappy with this country I wish all of them would go to China or North Korea and protest there!
