    R.I.P. Mr. Blue Face

Back in December I posted a thread aboutmy new saltwater tank we got for my Blue Faced Angle and his side kick the RockBeauty. https://www.lab-retriever.net/board/t...lue-angle.html
Well about a week later they started to show signs of getting Saltwater Ich (marine ich) which is a protozoan parasite Cryptocaryon irritans. With all the live rock, corals and invertebrates(Crabs, Snails, shrimp, etc.) treating the tank with a copper based products wasout. Ich only attacks vertebrates so by removing the fish (which wasn’t funwith all that rock for hiding), placing them in a 40gal quarantine tank and usinga hypo salinity treatment is much safer IMOP that using chemicals. The this process needs to continue for the live cycle of the parasite which is10 weeks so the big tank will not get any more fish till mid March if thatsoon. >
Needless to say there is a great sadnessin the household with loosing these two fish as they have been with us since2008 when my son got them in Orlando when he was attending UCF. They survivedseveral moves, different tanks (125, to a 240, back the 125, to a temp 40, backthe 125 and the 200 gallon tank) and succumb to Ich………it’s like keeping our furbabies well and sometimes things just happen that are beyond our control, guessthis was one of them. >

I'm sorry to see this. I don't know what the usual life span of fish would be, fishes that are nearly 9 years old is surprising to me. I guess I'm basing that on our few poor goldfish that we had as kids. I know you will miss them.

Oh, gosh, I'm sorry to hear this. They were both such pretty fish. I'm sure they will be missed...fish tend to have some neat quirky personalities that come out over time. I hope Mr. Blue Face wouldn't mind if I forever think of him as needing his butt rescued.

    Swim Free, boys.

Shamrock, in captivity they should live over 20 years.

    I am so sorry

This is why I don't keep fish. I used to have goldfish and my parents still keep them, they may seem fine one day and just die the next. It's stressful

Sorry for your loss. I kept fish for about 10 years, and i seemed every 12-18 months something would go wrong, and 90% of the fish would die. I kept Cichlids, and they would get pretty big, so i was always sad and stressful trying to figure out what went wrong.
