    Dear Russell Stover

Why are you messing with me? Valentine's Day is supposed to be a romantic, carefree day, full of love and puppies and kittens and rainbows. And trust. So when the cheat sheet in my heart shaped box of chocolates is just plain wrong, you have violated that trust. There is a huge difference between fruit and nut caramels and buttercream caramels. Huge. And you swapped them. Why? Why would you do that? It's just so mean. I was not, really not, in the mood for fruit and nuts. I wanted straight up sugar and butter and cream.

Lucky for you, I grew up in a world full of suspicion and skepticism. I grew up in a world where there were no cheat sheets. I grew up biting off the corners of each chocolate to see what they were before fully committing to a potentially disgusting bite of coconut or something else even remotely healthy that simply does not belong in my sugar hit. So you did not fool me with your lying ways. I sampled and revealed your treachery. Sampled again and found what I really wanted.

You lose, Russell Stover. And I win. No healthy stuff for me! These are chocolates, after all. When I want a salad, I'll eat a salad. You can't just fool me into it.

Seriously! No matter the brand, square or rectangular chocolates are supposed to be caramels of some variety, primarily buttercream. I really don't like when they've snuck in some weird flavor, especially fruit or rum/bourbon/ some other fake alcohol taste. And maple, maple is for syrup, not for yummy chocolates. Nuts? Yes, please include as many roasted almonds as will fit. Actually, in the Russell Stover boxes, I do like those ones that look like caramels but the innards are pink and chewy. Those can stay.

This is why I only buy Wockenfuss candies!!! LOL!! It does suck when you bite into a candy, and it's not what you expected!

A true Baltimore boy! Crafther and Sparky got some Wockenfuss in the Secret Santa box for Mocha and Latte. Gotta support the local economy!

Have never really liked any of that type of candy. However, every year I buy a tin of Russell Stover because of the tin. This year really cute puppies. I let DH eat the candy.

I'm with Poptop on this, I really don't care much for them. But my DH loves them and he is the kind that will break it in half to see what exactly is in it lolol.

I've never been a fan of boxed chocolates because of the surprises. I do like caramels and most nuts, buy when I buy myself a box of chocolate treats, it's from someplace I can hand pick. Who am I kidding, I never pick, it's all chocolate covered cherries from Govatos in Wilmington, DE. I no longer live there but go back often enough to get it as a special treat.

I used to get in trouble for eating a piece of the candy to figure out what was inside. Then, I learned. If I cut them in half to see what is inside then people get to "share" the wealth. Then, there was always a knife next to the candy box.

I love Zachary chocolates... but they usually just sell them around Christmas. Russel Stover has good peanut butter hearts though.
