Monday and Thursday - what's the deal?

I had to reschedule Fran's chemo this week from Thursday to Monday because my husband's appointment with his orthopedic surgeon is on Thursday then I canceled my couponing class on Thursday. Why? Because they are all in different cities and all of these places are open on Monday and Thursday. And that's it. What's the deal with that? Seriously, people. There are three other business days in the week. You're killing me. Really. My husband and I got into a huge argument about it. He wanted to cancel his surgeon's appointment so that Fran could get in at the right time. But that would mean his appointment would be put off for weeks and that's not realistic at all. It's important that he can walk. Crazy making.

If those are the only days they're open, I'm guessing they'd rather be open on Tuesdays and Thursday so every weekend is a 4 day weekend but Monday and Thursday seems more evenly spaced over the week.

Around here, a lot of places (retailers) are closed on Mondays (that's probably three day weekend). Also, Thursdays seemed to be the slowest days of the week for certain medical professionals (dental types). So...the places you're visiting might be taking advantage of other places being closed to give customers better access days (not competing with those open on other days...for people who must make appointments around work schedules).

Fridays are my only day to schedule appointments and I find a lot of places closed. I found a dentist I liked. Then the office chose to only have one 1/2 Friday and one 1/2 Saturday a month. What? They told me that I would just have to plan way ahead since the appts fill up fast. I said, "No, I'll find another dentist that can accomodate my schedule."

The dentist I started going to when Bob retired works only Mon - Wed. I really like him but the first time I need him and he's not there, I'm going elsewhere. I hate such reduced hours with single practitioners.

Bob's hours were Mon - Wed, Fri, and every other Saturday (as he got closer to retirement). Available by phone. The dentists who bought his practice were going to be straight 9 - 5 during the week with no lunch hours or Saturdays...and forget getting them by phone. A good number of Bob's patients were pretty vocal about that after they'd gotten their notices in the mail...not happy.

Around here doctors have multiple offices which means that they are only available locally on certain days. Then on those days, if they have surgery scheduled in the morning, only in the afternoon.

Reduced schedule is why we switched vets. They used to have evening hours, open until 7. Then it was 6. Now they are open 8:30-5 mon-fri. Saturday's they used to be open until 3, then 1, now 9-12. We could only do appointments on saturdays and god forbid there is an emergency. New vet is much more accommodating.

This is the issue with primary care and eye doctors, minus the surgery problem since neither do that. Eye doctor splits between more locations so it's even harder to get in with him. Both practices have multiple practitioners that I could get in to see for something urgent and I just schedule far enough in advance to get the times I need for regular visits.

My hairdresser on the other hand cut back the number of days he works a few years ago so his evening and Saturday appointments are even harder to get than they were before. I always need to make my next appointment at each haircut and if something comes up I keep my fingers crossed that I can get a similar time appointment relatively quickly.

Thankfully my job is flexible enough that I can adjust my schedule do not worry about mood to make evening or Saturday appointments.
