    Don't kill those spiders..

    Just saw this on CNN.

The ladies lose it when they find a spider in the house. I have been telling them for years that spiders eat things you don't want to see in your house and to leave them alone or just move them outside. They don't buy it.

Spiders feast annually on 400-800 million tons of insects - CNN.com

A new study released on Tuesday says that spiders eat an estimated 400 to 800 million metric tons of insects every year.
For comparison, the entire human population consumes about 400 million tons of meat and fish every year.
    Thanks Everyone!!

I hear you but there's a limit. I'll be hitting the basement cleaning in a week or so and the fact is that there are so many webs that I can barely see the beams. It's too much. They have to be kept in check. Same thing with snakes. They're great in certain populations but they can't overtake the property.

We don't kill spiders. I wish we could find some to come in and eat the ants that are coming in.

Oh, but I wish that one in the bathroom would not show itself during morning constitutional. Or the one that strolls the ceiling over my head at night.

I'm not a fan of spiders, but don't kill them. I practice catch and release. Same with bees, wasps etc that get in the house.

The act of catch and release is much easier for me than hearing an insect or spider crunch beneath my shoe. One time I had to catch and release a black snake that had somehow gotten into our powder room. Neither activity thrills me though.

A friend keeps finding black widows at her house (showed me a photo today of a huge one that she had to kill--- and she's a wildlife biologist btw-- for the sake of her labs). Considering that is what likely killed one of my labs 2 yrs ago, I spray now w/ Tempo. I also have had bad bites from yellow sacs. I agree that some are good but just like snakes, the bad guys have got to go around here for the safety of my dogs.

Safety first of course. I don't think anybody want to keep a herd of brown recluse spiders on their house. After reading the article I am going to think twice about how I deal with common house spiders or spiders around the garden or bushes outside. I normally leave them alone but this is a bit of an eye opener in regards to the balance of nature.
    Thanks Everyone!!
