A co-worker gave me his front loading washer for a case of beer (he upgraded) and we bought a new dryer as ours was pretty old but working. We have been thinking about putting the old pair online for cheap as we are sure somebody could use them. As I was thinking about it I came across this and thought do I need the headache. Maybe I should just donate them.

I got caught up online in the conversation between a fellow selling his motorcycle and someone trying to scam his paypal account out of him. It was hilarious. The seller twigged pretty quickly and then led the other person on and the would be scammer went on and on. Unfortunately it doesn't always work that way.

I agree-donate them to Goodwill.
I have a friend who isn't a complete idiot and when he was selling his car on Kijiji he had paypal offers and wanted to know if they were legitimate or not. It was the deposit too much money scam and then send back the overpayement scam as far as I could tell.
We tend to give everything to the Diabetes Society and just found out they take appliances.
Any time my kids suggest I try selling something on Craigslist, I just shudder. The thought of having some rando come to check out the goods is unappealing. We sold some cars through newspaper ads in the distant past and it wasn't always a comfortable transaction. These days, donating to an organization that will come and pick it up, if it's too large to drop off somewhere, is how I roll. We've donated a few cars that way now.
i have sold quite a bit thru kijiji, its always a bit of a crapshoot. However, I've always managed to find one or two good people per sale that are normal and honest. I usually put in the ad something along the lines of "scam/fraud savvy, so don't bother. Also don't bother if you're not really interested, or have no intention of showing up when you say you're going to..." I don't give out phone number until i've had a couple emails back and forth, and have the potential purchaser's number. Same with address. And, wherever possible, i have the item at work with me, instead of at home.
more and more, i get a person that laughs at the bit about scam/fraud savvy, and basically don't be a kijiji a**hole....those people are typically the ones that on the second email tell me they mean what they say, they're NOT kijiji a**holes....

We bought our new dining room table and chairs on Kijiji. They are like brand new, the people were lovely, it was a long but scenic drive to pick them up. I did go to see some that were absolute junk but most were very nice. The biggest problem I had was few of them thought ahead that the width and length of the table might be a concern for someone. I paid cash but it was only $400.

I have actually had decent enough luck off of kijiji. I bought a really nice center channel paradigm speaker, sold some golftown gift cards and sold our Jeep without any hassle. It's the hagglers that get to me. Jeep is $5,000. $1,500 is not close.
My friend sells everything he can find on there and does pretty decent. He probably has 10 ads at any given time and he always seems to sell. It's amazing what kind of junk people will buy.
How about donating to a rescue or your local AC. Both of those have been in want on a somewhat regular basis around here.

I don't think they take items. I have never seen them put out mailers or have anything on their website about taking articles. Diabetes has touched our family as well as a family friend who's little guy was just diagnosed so we are at peace with giving them what we can.
There is one independent shelter that I like to help out from time to time but your post has reminded me that I have not done so in awhile.
