Oh, I'm so jealous. We looked for years for a property we could afford and still commute to work from, and I could have my own horse. Will/do you need to still commute as well?

I road quite a bit as a kid but never had my own horse. What kind of horse are getting? Riding, what kind? We found a horse once. 18 hand Percheron loose on the road. I wanted to keep him.

My husband's commute is longer but it's manageable. I'm fortunate enough to work at home. I'm amazed that I can look outside my office window and see our barn, fields and animals.

We're getting an American Quarter Horse and she is absolutely gorgeous. Bay, two years old, 15 hands. Our 14 year old daughter rides and our son (almost 12) is interested in starting. They're probably more excited than I am.

I adore draft horses but I don't think we're quite ready for that. I've always dreamed of having a Percheron or Clydesdale, a real gentle giant.

Super congrats. Horses are ALMOST like dogs in that they are so personable. I grew up raising horses and they each have their own personality and querks . I loved it except when it came time to clean out the stalls.

I see that you are getting an American Quarter horse, that is what we had and they are very intelligent and affectionate animals.

Hope you enjoy your new experience!!!!

Thank you for the kind words, everyone! I will try to post pictures when she gets here. We have more on our wish list too - sheep, goats, cows. Hopefully our farm will keep growing.

The thing I'm happiest about is giving our children the opportunity to grow up in this environment and be farm kids. They have wide open spaces in which to run and play, animals and livestock to love and care for. It's amazing.
