      I Tried

So anxious to get to work in the gardens but it's still very cool and windy out. Yesterday and this evening I bundled up and worked until my fingers were frozen. Had to get the lawn mowed; with all the rain and some sunshine it was so tall and thick. Tomorrow rain so guess I'll have to get the grocery shopping done when I'd rather be outside digging in the dirt.

      Come on spring!

I hear you. It has been so cold and windy here pretty much all week long. I did manage to get out a couple weeks ago and get my flower beds mulched, mosquito plants repotted and started my little container garden with carrots planted this past week. the blue berries are coming along nicely too if they are not destroyed by the cold weather.

the wind has been so high and unrelenting that two of my yearling trees were left leaning a bit, so had to go out and re stake them. While I was working on the front tree my girls were in the back digging in the flower garden helping me LOL My mower is still set on the highest notch to get the grass mowed between rain storms and have to cut half the back where it is always wet with my weed trimmer.

Know what you mean. We had 10 3/4" of rain in 8 days night temps in the low 40s, days in the low 50s wind gusts of 40+, major flooding and closure of all major highways around St. Louis. I tried to work in the garden yesterday (first day of no rain) but the soil temp was about 48 and of course wet.

Like a dummy I did a lot of planting 3 weeks ago when it was dry and in the 80s. Now I fear the plants will rot off at the ground level.

I feel real sorry for the local farmers as they too planted early and everything was under water for about a week. I guess the prices at the local farmer market will be very high this year.

We had two days of 80 degrees this week and now it's back to cold and drizzly. It's such a short growing season here in the oregon high desert that I already have a room full of started seedlings that I can't wait to get outside. My little greenhouse is going well (broccoli, radish, onions, arugula, romaine, and carrots) but I want to get stuff in the beds! At least the strawberries started growing like mad this week - previous owner tells me it is a very productive plant.

I hear you. We're just so wet here. I should be planted by now but when I went to mow so I could till, the lawn tractor got stuck in the mud and I had to get my husband to put the boards under the tires so I could get it out. Normally, I just lift and shift but it was so deep, I couldn't do it. Compare to the drought last year. I'm just shaking my head. We may have to buy some mature plants just to get started.

^ same here. Today supposed to be in low 50's, sunny. However, we live so close to the lake that we stay 5-10 degrees closer. We'll see how much I can get done. Planting still not done, UGH

I didn't watch my weather last night and we had a frost. I am so hoping that my blueberries and carrots survive. We were hit with a late frost last year and although we tried to cover up and protect the yearling tree's the one located in the backyard I'm pretty sure it is gone, especially with last nights frost.

Supposed safe frost free date around here is 5/15 and it's sure pushing it this year. Put in a flat of moss roses and they did OK. Got two more flats to go. Tried to get out after supper and my hands were freezing again. Someday, maybe while I'm raking up fall leaves.
