    What are you growing?

I haven't planted yet because it's been so wet in the field but my husband got my Monster Tiller up and running and I managed to get the drier area tilled in about 30 minutes. Putting in the seedlings in a couple of days. Inspire me! What are you growing?

I don't know yet... I'm thinking a couple beds of green beans from seed (for the dogs), a cutting bed (for me), some cherry tomatoes (for all of us) and some zuchinni (for all of us). Next year I'll have about three more beds as I am extending the garden area.

I'm busy getting rid of all the grass in the backyard and finishing the landscaping in the front yard. I'm also going to be putting up a new fence (replacing and adding), adding a dog potty area and having a new driveway built!

It's already too hot here for beans and peas, and my Jalapenó already has fruit on it, one I just picked this morning. I have 4 different tomatoes, some squash, and three types of peppers. My Apricot tree is full, so is my orange tree and Meyer lemon tree/bush. I wish I had more room to grow stuff, and chickens.

I'm lucky to have a greenhouse since I live in such a short growing season area. I've had tomatoes, broccoli, peas, potatoes, onions, arugula, romaine, carrots, and radishes going for a while. Today I worked my raised beds and cleaned up the berry plants. In addition to greenhouse plants I'll have pumpkins, cucumber, mini cantaloupes, spinach, butter lettuce, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, acorn squash, garlic, zucchini, corn, sweet peas, green beans, and assorted flowers. This is my first year with my 1600 sq ft+ garden so I'm trying a bunch of things to see what works best.

I put my things that like cool to germinate in last week and this weekend, with temperatures of +31C (~89F) I put the rest in. So have 4 kinds of tomato seedlings, buttercup squash, yukon gold potatoes, carrots, onion starters, swiss chard, 4 kinds of lettuce, beets and green beans. Oh, 5 kinds of tomato, grape in planters out front. In a week or so I'll put some more in so I have a rotation of lettuces and beans. It rained most of yesterday, nice gentle rain. Not happy for the holiday weekend campers (but some years we've had snow) but nice for my garden.

I am actually in the process of ripping things out, I am redoing all my landscaping. However as I was ripping stuff out I came to a halt on one spot.

Guess I am growing Robins again this year.

They always like to be in Hemi's favorite spot. They are in this vine.

Hemi doesn't seem to mind them, but they sure do not like Hemi out there.

I've got only pots out the back, so i've got 2 different varieties of tomatoes in 2 pots (a beefsteak that i've not tried before, and Early Girl, which is really nice), and i have one of those TopsyTurvy tomato planters. Its got some type of grape tomato in it, but they're dying...I had a small variety of tomato in it last year and they were fabulous, so may have to go and get another plant.
For the 1st time, i've also planted english cucumbers at the side of the deck, in behind the hosta border, figured i could run some string up the decking and privacy wall. we'll see how they do...

The beginning of March,I planted the raised bed with several varieties of lettuce, radishes, spinach and Chioggia beets. We've been able to have a small salad every other day for the last couple of weeks. The radishes have all been eaten and I've planted more radish seed in the empty spots. Today I planted yellow zucchini, park choi, kohl rabi, basil and found another bare spot for more radishes. Tomatoes (chocolate cherry and long keeper), celery and leeks went in the ground May 10. Also planted snap peas the same day. Probably next week I will plant the sweet potatoes. I had three kale plants that survived the winter and have flowered. I pulled up two of them and threw them on the compost pile. Saved the other one and added the flowers to our salad. Today I was going to pull up the last one but noticed bees buzzing around. Our garden space isn't very big, but I can pack a lot of things into the space.

We don't get enough sun in most of my yard or on the back porch to sustain vegetables, barely enough for many flowers unless they can thrive in less than half day sun. If I can get some grass to fill in some of the bare spots and the rhododendron I planted survives, it will be a successful planting season.

Herbs! Lavender, Thyme and sage from last year. Basil (3 varieties), Dill, Cilantro, Rosemary and Mint (2 varieties, in pots). I also planted flowers in pots and baskets. Earlier in the Spring, our neighbor was thinning out their hostas and gave us several plants. I'm trying my hand at growing flowers from seeds. Between Latte trying to eat them and the deer, we'll see what survives.
