How are your New Year's resolutions working out?

Last year I went off of caffeine and high fructose corn syrup. That went really well but it took a long time to adjust. This year I went off of cane sugar. I didn't necessarily mean for that to be permanent. It was meant to be something that I would go back to on a lower level but I'm no longer interested.

How are you doing with your resolutions?

I don't do well with resolutions although there are always things, or new habits I want to do. This year a couple like cooking more vs eating out and not giving in to the junk food stress eating cravings have had more success than others like cleaning out the basement and garage.

A couple years ago I started avoiding high fructose corn syrup. I wish I could give it up completely but it's in so much stuff, it's hard to avoid 100%.

I do better with what you might call seasonal resolutions. Annual resolutions don't work out for me but shorter term goals do work. janedoe, girl, you must have hundreds of little "resolutions" every year. Good job formulating and sticking to a yearly resolution!

Let's see, I've done a fair amount of de-junkifying in the basement and have gone through my closet and drawers so I could redistribute my "wealth" to Goodwill, solid waste management, or elsewhere. I'll call that my late winter resolution rather than spring cleaning.

Spring brought yard work, including getting grass to grow in some annoying bare areas. I've put that particular project off for a few years. It has worked out well as long as I can get the guy who mows our yard to stop weed whacking the new grass down to bare dirt again. My mulched beds look pretty good and I haven't gotten poison ivy yet. Score!

Hmmm, I lost 4 pounds staying with/running after my 2 year old grandbaby last week, so that turned out to be a serendipitous summer goal before going to the beach. I think I should make a resolution to babysit more often!

I have stopped drinking diet soda after it was found that they are linked with higher levels of dementia and stroke. Vascular disease tends to be more represented in my genetics so why increase the risk? Sugar- and Artificially Sweetened Beverages and the Risks of Incident Stroke and Dementia | Stroke I already didn't drink regular soda. I wish I liked water better. I'm not giving up coffee or caffeine or wine... or Dove chocolates.

I am with Sundance, my new years resolutions are going awesome. I just don't make any.

Never understood this. When you want to make a change in your life plan it to when it is going to be easiest for you. Want to loose 10 lbs, don't set this goal before going on vacation. Set it when there is nothing going on and you can concentrate on just eating healthier and exercise. Goals require actually a change in your lifestyle it is much easier to change that lifestyle when you can dedicate the mind frame to it.

Maybe it's a personality thing. I need to mark time, otherwise it gets away from me. We always do the one year plan at the end of the year and generally have a five year plan unless there's a health issue that sidelines it.
