    Muscle spasms from stress.

I'm doing my level best to stay calm and rested and eat well but at the end of the day, there's just too much going on and we're literally on the verge of taking our oncologist to lunch as a social thing. I have developed a couple of tics or spasms and I'm 90% certain it's from stress. One is in my right thumb and is only periodic but the other is under my left eye and has spread to my eyelid and kind of seizes the area to the point that my eyelid almost closes for a couple of seconds. If I rub it, it gets worse.

Have you ever had these stress related conditions? Is there anything you did about it? Like a compress or getting a massage or something? I've never had these kinds of subconscious kinds of things before. Usually I just cry it out but I don't have the time.

I haven't had the muscle spasms but a good massage can do wonders with stress. All massage therapists are different so ask about their style when making an appointment. Some tend to work more on the relaxation aspect while some work on loosening up your muscles so it depends on what you prefer.

Could also be the heat, dehydration. Make sure your getting lots of water, you might try some Propel or Gatorade or even healthier if you like it coconut water. This adds electrolytes which can help with nerves and make sure they are all functioning properly.

Stress, heat, everything, just make sure you take care of yourself too.

Agree with Jeff, dehydration causes loss of electrolytes which decreases the ability of the synapse of the nerves to function, so they 'misfire' randomly. Stress changes the chemical reactions in your brain by releasing different hormones and proteins causes the nerves to over or under react.

Changes in weather conditions can also causes muscle problems and well as joint problems.

Cramps are an indication of low potassium, so as Jeff said lots of the right kind of liquids is good.

Someone who needs to have the electrolytes that not all Gatorade flavors or types have them so make sure to check the labels.

I have not personally checked this out yet. It was mentioned when I said I needed to get some for the hot weather.

I will get the eye tic when very stressed. When I realize I'm that stressed, the tic will sure make me take heed. Do keep hydrated.

You may be low on Magnesium. Normally and eye twitch is associated with potassium and why people eat bananas. But the potassium generates more magnesium. I hope you find some relief soon.
