    We're going to Canada!

Specifically Montreal and Quebec City. Any must see, do, or eat in these two places or anywhere along the way? We are flying in to Montreal in Sept. and driving to Quebec. We plan to stay 3 nights in each.

It's not my first time in Canada but it's my first time in these cities. We did Calgary, Banf, Jasper when I was a kid and Toronto in a separate trip.

Need to start brushing up on my French [emoji51]

Gosh, all my father's family are from Montreal but I haven't been in decades. You will know it better than I do. I think Woody is in Montreal. And a member who has not posted in a long time. Have fun.

Sounds like great fun! Have not been since I was a kid and that's a long, long time ago.

You be in Canada to celebrate our 150th, though I guess July 1 is the official date. My only experience with Montreal is driving through it to get to New Brunswick. I've heard Quebec City is wonderful. We need to go there sometime. Enjoy your holiday!

I spent six weeks in Quebec years ago and loved it! Vieux-Quebec or Old Quebec is a historic district - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's been a long time but back then, folks in the tourist/restaurant industry in Montreal spoke English but in Quebec City, none. Don't know what it's like now. Everyone I met was friendly & welcoming. Would love to visit again but the opportunity hasn't arisen... yet.

Good to know! It looks stunning in photos.

I studied French in college, actually my major was in French and Francophone studies, and I got pretty far along. I recall reading Candide in French and my French literature professor was actually French Canadian. Now I can barely order a meal! And it wasn't that long ago, it's only been 6 years or so since I graduated. Would be nice to use it lol.

Thanks! I'll check the calendar to see if there are any special events related to the 150th.

I was trying to find a link to the glow in the dark toonie ($2.00 coin) that the Canadian Mint is issuing, but can't seem to find it. That would be a good souvenir for your trip

Here is a link: Canada "toonie" coin glows in the dark - BBC News

I am not in Montreal but have been a few times but not in awhile. I have been to a few hockey games and we went to the Montreal Jazz Festival one year by mistake. We just jumped in a car one Friday afternoon and ended up in Montreal while the festival was on. Great time, I recommend it. Lots of food, drinks and music.

I have never been to Quebec City but would love it. Lots of old buildings that I would like to see.
    Thanks Everyone!!

It was about 10 years ago, but I remember liking both Montreal and Quebec City. We took the train over to Quebec City just for a day trip. It was easy taking the subway all over Montreal as our hotel was just a couple blocks away from one of the stations. I remember liking the Old Montreal section the most. If you are into shopping, there is an underground system with shops that is similar to the PATH in Toronto and it connects to their big mall. I could be wrong, but I think that was made for commuters to walk to their workplaces without having to go out in the freezing cold?

We also went to the Botanical Gardens there. We didn't see much in late May, but that is because the blooms start a bit later than what I am used to seeing here in California.

Unsure if you drink alcohol, but I always enjoy getting a bottle or two of ice wine in Canada and (I think) the ice cider that they sell in the liquor stores is from Quebec.
