ONe posted recently on our community page warned of attempted child abductions in some local communities, described the suspect briefly and a car. No source information, no time of when this happened, no mention of what to do if you spotted the car. I think the FB admins could get into trouble if that was a joke being played and targeted a (distinctive) car erroneously and caused harm to the driver of it.

But it was true. I contacted Police and they confirmed. So the other danger is it was true and people disregarded it because of how poorly it was presented. I was not the only person who questionned it and I did correct that one. Kids at risk, for God's sake, post it properly.

I used to enjoy Facebook. I took a social media leave of absence for a month and loved it. I got sick of the political tirades and the "copy and paste this... status" crap. Sad to say, I didn't last without it as I guess I'm just too nosy, bored or addicted. I am on Facebook less. I find Instagram better for me because I can just look at people's labs and puppies and not stuff that is irritating.
However, I have blocked a bunch of people and that's working out well!

This is pretty much my stance now regarding all things internet. I used to be the guy that would post several articles and links to disprove stuff that was intended for the gullible and naive. I even tried to teach people how to research things before they sound the alarm. One person simply said to me "but it's so easy for you I'll just post things and you can correct them if needed". Yea, that was it, no one really cared to know the truth.

While Snopes is most people's go to site for the subject of 'truth' they too have been known to have an agenda, so I would always search a few sites to see if there was confirmation among them.

Yes, good research would look at more than one disputing or confirming alternate source.

The latest episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver dealt with anti-vaxers and all of the misinformation on the internet etc. Reminded me of this thread.

    Thanks Everyone!!

I would correct something if it's serious.
