Actually starting at about midnight, rain, rain and more rain. Town just south of us has had 8+ inches in about 8 hours. DD has to drive that way to work and she could not make it. Roads flooded and closed; she came home. We got close to the same amount. Heavy rains that make it look white outside. Flash flood warnings up all around, for our area until later this afternoon. It's a mess.
Sure wish some of this had fallen in the drought stricken, fire ridden western states.

Were not far from you and had the same thing. We don't have a rain gauge, but I'm guessing we've had about 10" this past week.

Wish some of that would fall out here, too.

There's been a lot here too. We are on top of a sandy ridge so not affected too badly. My garden is flourishing though I probably will not get the bumper crop of tomatoes I had last year. But fields are wet and some crops will be lessened and some completely ruined. Some farmers have planted twice, lost both crops and now it's too late to plant a third time.

Luckily we are the high spot in the neighborhood. Some homes around us have had to flooded. Have not ridden around yet but I'm sure there will be piles of soggy belongings piled outside.
Today is slightly better but still bad. There are three roads that go west from us over the DesPlains river. All of them are either closed or open lanes greatly reduced. The hospital I used to work at flooded, 70 patients had to be moved. They are open back up today but emergencies are being rerouted to other facilities. Just north of us in WI the National Guard has been called out to help. It's bad.
DD did make it to work this morning. Says it took extra time and planning ahead to pick a route.

Please send any extra rain you have to the St. louis area. We are so dry you can stick your finger down the cracks in the ground, plus we are in the 3 digit degree range of heat. Need some help here, the farmers are suffering which means higher produce prices and poorer quality.
Only the darn weeds are growing well. Guess maybe next year I should plant weeds in my garden!!
I've rarely seen rain as heavy as we had last evening. We could not see the house across the street. Heck, we couldn't see the street. Only times I remember that happening before was in snow storms. Hydro stayed on but satellite went out so if there was a tornado warning we missed it. OH heard trees going down but none in our yard.

Ventured out in a west direction that would take me over the river and it's flood plane. One road still well under, river only crested yesterday, now just waiting for it to go down. Record levels. Second road open but traffic was so backed up decided to go the only other way, the third road. Nope, now they have it closed when it had been open. Maybe because of the higher level, maybe difficulties with the bridge. Long trip. And it was not even a high traffic time.
The Desplanes river has a huge watershed area and for the life of me I can't figure why anyone would want to live in areas like that. One man on the news days his house gets flooded every 4-5 years.
