    Wish Me Luck

Going through 5 totes of Beanie Babies looking for a rare one. DH wants to retire sooner than later.

So far, not so good, LOL.

Also lining up Lego sets to sell. Gonna be one big yard sale.

I applaud your efforts. The last huge yard sale we had was 10 years ago when we combined households. It sounded like fun at the beginning and four days later, not so much. I hate bringing the stuff we don't sell back in.

Good luck, however most beanie babies are worthless. The ones that are worth money are special edition ones that were limited. So like the rare princess Diana commemorative original one, they redid it 6 times, but the actual first run is worth some dough. Then in the US some of the foreign only releases might get you something if you were traveling back then and happened to pick one up. Most though are pretty worthless. Problem with Beanie Babies is everyone thought they would be collectible so everyone bought tons of them. So there are tons of them out there. The only one that made money was the beanie baby people. Who churned them out by the billions to meet demand. My sister eventually just threw hers out rather than dealing with them anymore. Most beanie babies are going to be worth a buck or two.

Now your Legos could be worth some good money. Very much so as complete sets but maybe even more parted out. I had a bunch of legos from when I was a kid as after my mom passed away I had all these kits which were all in a shoe box pieces and parts some pieces missing here and there. I remembered roughly which kits I had. There are websites out there where people are just looking for the one single piece of a set so they can complete theirs again. You can get 400-500 sometime for one single piece of plastic. I had some of the original star wars sets. Shame they weren't complete but some pieces are worth a lot. Takes a lot of work but you can make a ton of money.

Just FYI: There are charities that collect Lego kits to give to underprivileged kids or stock camps, etc. They pay for shipping. Just thought I'd mention.

Jeff: Found a web site that has updated price for the beanie babies as of May 2017. Indeed, most of what I have is not worth much but have a couple which might bring in some bucks. I specialized in the bears. Certainly not going to make enough for DH to retire early, but at least will free up some storage space. Also came across some coke bears (made like beanies) and that's were the money is.

Been working hard on the Lego collection. I have no loose pieces, all sets, once built, some retired. I can easily get back 75% of what was spent. That works for me - had my fun.

Sundance: Thanks for the heads up. Had not heard about that. The beanie bears with nominal value are going to the local fire department as they give bears to children they find in stressful situations, fires, injuries, etc.

Some of those...you can get back more than what you spent....but probably not at a yard sale. I'm thinking eBay.

I give you credit for being able to put it all together and then get it out thee door. I have a pile waiting for sale or donation and all it does is sit there and stare at me. Good luck with it all Fran.

Oh the Coke stuff, yeah that sells at amazing prices. On occasion I buy precious metals, much saver bet for investment. So Gold or Silver, I am actually silver kind of guy, Gold is quickly going out of my price range, but I still have some small amounts from early years. Anyway, a lot of people make fancy designs in bars. You can buy silver coins, or silver bars bars get as elaborate designs as coins. Anyway for fancy designed bars you pay a few dollars over the price of the value of the actual metal. So like right now Silver is a little over $16 an ounce, for a fancy 1 ounce bar you may pay $18-20. You can expect to sell them in the future, maybe a dollar or so over what the price of silver is. A long time ago Coke-cola came out with a limited edition Silver bar set. Again they came out for a couple dollars over the price of silver back then maybe only a dollar as this was 1975, These one out silver bars go from $100-$1000 a bar now depending on the condition and rarity of the design. I have never understood to facination with old Coke-Cola stuff but it is out there.

Some example of Coke silver bars

Sigh. It's 30% off for seniors day at Value Village today and OH came home with two more canes. MOre being the operative word. I keep telling him, if he dies first I'm going to hire a big bin and throw all that stuff he calls collectebles and antiques, and I call junk, out. What's more, I'm going to pay to have it all compacted. All the guns, the stationary engines, the car, the cameras and more. If it's worth something I don't know what that might be and I don't feel like learning about that junk so he'd better get rid of it now. My tactic is not working one bit.

^^^^^ Ha! problem is, the stuff your DH thinks is collectible actually is collectible, just unfortunately by other shall we say "thrifty" collectors???? folks who love the stuff, but want to get it "for a good price"...(stationary engines and hit-n-miss engines...don't know how many i've helped move over the years, usually up out of a basement into the back of a pickup thence into a shed, never to be seen again... and theyre not light!)^^^^^
