It's awfully hot this year. The low is 25 and the high 37C in the last couple of weeks. We are lucky to have the fountain. However, I had to run 16k as part of my marathon training. I started at 7 am and it was too hot already.

I know you are, but....Be careful when you're out there running, Elena. I saw a couple of people bent over and gasping this morning on their usual runs (I see them every morning...they're regulars and fit). One was getting splashed by another from the water fountain. It was only about 78 degrees but close to 100% humidity. I've been coming home from my 4 mile fast walk looking and feeling like a well-used dishrag.

Thanks Barb, I know. This is my second summer running. I just stop the tempo runs and run at an easy pace. I know I can't run in the summer like I do in winter. Also, where I run, near the lake, there are many drinking fountains.

Mollysmomma, it seemstome that almost anything (except snow!) could happen in Calgary in August. I hope what happens is mild weather!

kimbersmom, mountains can make for quite varable weather. Fog here and not there, breeze here and not there, a shower here and a flash flood there.

Berna, that is incredibly hot. What is the humidity like? And, when is the marathon?

SunDance, at work I now have to wear fire resistant coveralls when I go out into the plant area. I don't last long, and my respect for my coworkers who work outside has increased by leaps and bounds.
    -----------------
We got no rain last night. The morning was warm and humid, then we got a shower which did fill the rain barrels. Now a *cool* front has come through; though it didn't lower the temperature the humidity has dropped. We're outside and it's comfortable.

We are getting two days in the '60s. Finally. So happy. I am so far behind on my yard work.

I don't think I'm normally someone who feels envy....but this seems to be doing just that for me. Enjoy those days!

The humidity varies, it's around 70% in the morning and then drops to 25%. It's incredibly dry this year too. The ground is full of yellow leaves, it reminds me of October. The grass is dry and yellow.

The marathon is in the end of October.

Triple digits here. But we have very low humidity. I think there are real advantages to the high desert climate. We have a 40 or more degree temperature swing through the day, so if you get out early you can get 30 minutes or so of training in, ditto in the evening. (The other great advantage to being at 5500' above sea level is no ticks or fleas.)

Partly because the only place for me to rotate them to was back where it is shadier. ONe whole row doesn't even have any flowers on it yet. The perennial flowers though, they have been GREAT.

Oh, the mosquitoes are horrible. They are biting me crazy and they usually don't much like me.

With Rocky's health issues (and generally low tolerance for heat) I've had the AC on since may it's VERY cool indoors. The bedroom is also on the third level so in order for it to be tolerable fro Rocky to sleep there (even with fans) the rest of the house has to be pretty cool as well.

I'll admit it hasn't been a very HOT summer and tons of rain. But it's so humid here all the time that even as people complain it's not "warm" it's still very humid and hard for Rocky. Even for myself, running in the humidity sucks. I have never been much of a summer person though

I look forward to September! I love fall.

Honestly I could never live anywhere that hits triple digits regularly. Just yuck. But here we deal with a huge variation from winter to summer. (-30 degrees celcius to +30 degrees)
