      What is with this bird?

Yesterday afternoon my wife was sitting on the deck reading a magazine when this idiot landed on the table beside her and then started walking towards her being really vocal. He then dive bombed her.

She came running in the house and Georgia dog and I came out and that bird sat on the fence and let me walk right up to it when then dive bombed me. It then sat on our eaves making tons of noise. Not until Georgia made a run at it did it finally take off.

It has to be too late for a nest and there is nothing that I could find around our back deck. Our neighbor in her infinite wisdom has decided to put a feeder of shelled peanuts out and its all day long with squirrels, chipmunks and birds cutting through our property to get to the feeder and get back to the large property beside ours. We have seen some epic battles like a Blue Jay and Squirrel but dive bombing us it crazy.

      Thoughts?

      Thanks Everyone!!

It's not too late for a nest. Folks across the street have two with eggs laid last week right at their front door. One is a robin, forget the other. I can't see a lot of detail in your photo. Do you know what kind of bird it is?

Hum, a little hard to identify. Was thinking a thrasher or grackle.

Sounds like a cool bird to me....also sounds like he/she has a bit of cat in him. You know...."hi...I'm friendly kitty....mreowwww, hiss".

I wonder if it is attracted to something about you and then, when it realizes you're a human, it freaks out.

It could have been a Starling from the photos. It was definitely freaked out about something and showed no fear of us. I did not see it out today as of yet.

It might be a catbird. Does your photo make him look darker than he was in real life? Does he have a dark cap on his head?

What is the object just to the right of the bird--it almost looks like a fuzzy baby bird head......

I was thinking a common starling as well, darn annoying birds. It doesn't look like a catbird, mockingbird, robin from that photo, his tail doesn't look like the grackles I've seen, who can be pretty obnoxious if you have food they want. I've not been dive bombed by a starling but my brother got his head pecked by a blue jay while he was riding his bike. We have a neighbor who likes to put out food for the squirrels, deer, foxes, etc. Maybe your neighbor is attracting the wrong sorts.

Its just where the metal frame comes together on the shade structure that it was sitting on.
