The one coming right to mind is this: Last year we bought a plant at Home Hardware tagged as a blackcurrant which turned out to be a redcurrant. Not a big deal though.
Last year I bought what I thought was a specific type of tomato from the Home Depot but ended up with two cherry tomato plants. It worked out okay as I enjoyed them all season long.
This year I bought a plant called a Cherry Stuffer Pepper plant Cherry Stuffer Pepper
and have ended up with something similar to a jalapeno. It is not as long a jalapeno but it is green and definitely not round. I left a couple of them on the plant waiting for colour change but they ended up cracking in one of the creases or folds.
How often you see plants with the wrong tags in them? Seems odd to me.

I bought spring blooming crocus bulbs some of which turned out to be fall blooming. I was pretty upset because Whisper ate a couple of the bulbs and when I phoned the poison hot line they told me the fall blooming ones were poisonous. I was greatly relived, thinking I had only bought spring blooming ones. Then some bloomed in fall. Whisper would have had to eat an awful lot of them and she hadn't, but still.
Then I bought Showy Tick Trefoil at a native plant sale. Three of them. I put them where they should have liked to be and they struggled. After a few years two died. The remaining one struggled on till one year it finally grew enough leaves for me to see - it was a Beach Pea. It wasn't a Showy Tick Trefoil at all. The poor thing, it tried to hard to live but these two plants like very different conditions. The seed pods on them do look quite a bit alike so I guess that's where the mix up happened.
I don't know if our crabapple was mislabelled or it had the wrong information for the type it was. I made jelly three years out of the fruit, which was one reason we picked the type. It was tasteless every year and I don't bother now. It was supposed to be a very good type for jelly so that was a disappointment.

I bought a blueberry bush that turned out to be something that didn't flower/fruit...I forget what it was, that was years ago...and from a good nursery, too.
I guess it's just not happening to me. No way these are Cherry Stuffers
WEll how about this? Since my post above I have joined the Ontario Field Botanists and it seems the stuff I was sold years ago that turned out to be Beach Pea IS also called Showy Tick Trefoil. BUT, I replaced my plants last spring, at a native plant centre near me, and guess what this time? What was sold to me this time as Showy Tick Trefoil IS what I expected. Now I really am not sure which name is correct for which. No wonder these things are labelled wrongly.
This what I understood to be Beach Pea. If I google this I get different latin names but also sometimes come up with Showy Tick Trefoil. This one likes lots of sun.
This is what I was told, by naturalists and a botanist neighbour, was Showy Tick Trefoil. It's my favourite wildflower. Rather delicate, not what is usually called "showy" but I guessed amongst the trefoils it was showy. Anyway, I did get this name when I googled but also Sharp or Pointed Leaved Tick Trefoil. This one likes more shade than sun.

I just consulted my old (i.e., pre-Internet) Wildflowers & Weeds ID book and.....
Your second pic is shown as Tick Trefoil. No question about it.
Beach Pea is shown as something you don't have....very similar to the Wild Pea that's used for erosion control along roads sometimes.
I'm still trying to find your first pic...if it's in the book, it's definitely not considered to be either of these names.
Found it....Canada Tick Clover. Google confirms, comparing some of their images to yours.
I stick w/ the smaller chain stores for my garden plants! We have a great one locally, super prices, and rarely an issue w/ tags. That's frustrating.

Seems to happen all the time at places like Home Depot. If it isn't an adult pulling a name tag to check info and putting it back in the wrong place, it's kids playing with the tags.
Have a local private garden center that is awesome about identifying their plants and usually buy all my stuff from there. End of season sales are awesome for perennials.
