    Is this poison ivy?

-poisonivy-jpgVery shiny leaves. Ragged edges. Is that it?

I don't think it's poison ivy. Typically I think of it as having less ragged edges. Though, there may be variations depending on the growing region?

It"s difficult to see the individual brackets but yours look like they have 5 or more leaves per stem rather than 3. Poison ivy definitely is just 3 leaves per stem. Most of ours has somewhat jagged edges. If I have a chance, I'll try to get a close up that shows them well. It's a little cluster but definitely just 3 leaves per stem. This is what's in my yard. Your photo looks more like berry canes to me although as I said, I can't see it terribly well. Below is my PI, this link goes to WebMD and shows poison ivy, oak, and sumac. https://www.webmd.com/allergies/ss/sl...-poison-plants

OK. Thank you. I looked up about the five leaves thing and it looks like it's probably virginia creeper which goats can also eat. Apparently though, if virginia creeper is around, so is poison ivy.

The guys came over to clear that area and most of the stuff down there is pretty innocuous. I'm almost disappointed.

Yours doesn't look like Virginia creeper either, of which I also have plenty. With Virginia creeper, all 5 leaves meet in the center of the leaflet. I haven't done a good job keeping up with the vines in our yard, we also have wild grape vines and at the beach there is a lot of trumpet vine. One reason I know poison ivy so well is that if I want to pull out the vines, I'd better know what I'm pulling. Do those things in your photo have little spiky thorns along the length of the cane? Do they actually climb up trees or other bushes or are they mostly long arching canes that drape over things? No berries that you can see?

Here's the Virginia creeper vine climbing a maple tree in front of our house and a close up of some of the leaflets. Some leaflets have as many as 6-7 leaves that all meet in the middle. Not sure why the photos are sideways.

Yeah, that's definitely not poison ivy. It was too dark but shiny green. Also the leaves are not in the pattern for poison ivy. Once you get to know it and get used to seeing it. You see plants as Poison Ivy or Wild Raspberry, I need a closer look at the step to tell them apart Or something else. Just from the picture I can tell you that's something else.

Don't think it is poison ivy either. Always remember my Mom warning us about the three leaves.
