For groundhogs Grandpa used to drive a big pole into the ground very close to the hole so his cows would steer around it and not break a leg stepping in it. Grandpa was pleased to see us visit with our dog Teddy each summer. Teddy wiped out the groundhog population in one field. Poor things but at least it was a pretty quick ending for them.

Too funny. As I was reading your post this am I was sitting at the kitchen table filling out the forms to renew my LTC. Most of the country couldn't appreciate the hurdles Massachusetts throws up to make it a challenge to get an unrestricted LTC. Each police chief in the state has the final say on YEAH or NAY for an LTC in your home town. Hope you husband's LTC comes through without a hitch.

You know it is not such a bad thing. I would rather have your laws than Michigan. Michigan is what gives a bad name to gun owners. We are a "shall issue" state, you go to a gun range with a licensed instructor, he signs a form that yes you can shoot shoot a firearm and that he seen you shoot. Then you go get fingerprinted and pay your fee and a month later it shows up. Way too easy for morons to get that license here.

When I got mine I went to certified NRA School here in Michigan for an all day class. I figured if I was going to get mine I was going to be responsible and learn as much as I could about it. I grew up with guns and got my first one at age 10 and went hunting that year after taking hunter safety courses and so on. I would consider myself and experienced gun owner. However, It was an 8 hour class, with 2 hours on the range as that is the actual legal requirement, not the time limit but that they actually see you shoot. They trained us how to shoot in several scenarios, from cover, one handed, opposite hand one handed which honestly is something I had never done. Never thought about practicing with the off hand. Which in self defense what happens if your injured in your primary hand. We went through the NRA books on home defense and we had a gun lawyer come in and talk to us specifically about the laws in Michigan and explain a lot of the legal terms in plain English. He covered reciprocity and even flying with your firearms when traveling to other states. I learned the laws about brandishing a firearm and so on which I didn't know. We had a guy come in and talk to us and you never would have known he was carrying 7 guns. We learned a whole lot about concealment. I learned a great deal even about home defense that I didn't know. So I consider it time not spent and would really prefer anyone that had their license in Michigan have to do that. I mean your going to carry a gun you should be responsible and try to learn as much as you can about it. Taking a 8 hour course is not too much to ask.
