Aye Mates,
Whilst skulking about with me camera today I made note of these starkly contrasting orange leaves of a stag horn sumac against the rich greens of surrounding wild grape leaves. The complimentary colors peaked me artist's eyes and provoked an itch for the coming fall when once again I would be hunting birds o'er wonderful Labrador Retriever gunning dogs. Now ye might think me use of "itch" relative to sumac to be a pun of the poisonous variety, but not so. The fruit of stag horn sumac can be made into a tea like beverage with a wee bit of a citrus like taste.
Further adding to me longing for Autumn fields, the weather here in New England was unseasonably cool and dry today. Bring on those vibrant reds, yellows, and greens and the pungent aroma of wild grapes on the vine as me gun dog TRAD flushes a pheasant from a field of switchgrass and ye will have one very happy Dog Whistler
Cheers,
Mikey

Nice. I feel that itch too. Yesterday morning it was 12.8 C when I got up. Lovely, cool, energizing air. Even seemed to have knocked the mosquitoes back a bit. Sadly, it got humid as heck later, and felt muggy.

As much as I love fall, I'm not ready yet. Too many gardening chores to be finished.
Beautiful picture.

Mike indeed beautiful picture. Do not be deceived by the cooler weather (AS NICE AS IT IS) surely the heat of summer will come back with a last blast and then things will settle down.
Agree with POPYOP, too much gardening and canning to be done everyday because so much was put into God's bounty!!

Aye Mate,
I train with Labs near every day and am surely aware that the stifling heat of August is still ahead of us. There have been several days this summer where I have refused to jeopardize dogs by training during severe heat and humidity. When I see leaves turning and nights cooling significantly I just yearn for the days afield that I know lay ahead come Autumn. Thanks to all for ye kind words on the photo.
Cheers Mates,
Mikey

I guess I always hated school and for that reason hated fall, the end of my holiday. And I HATE the cold. So fall is the end of something good, the reminder of coming "bad". Fall weather is absolutely fabulous. But it makes me a little sad.
However, this fall I will get my order of hundreds (what was I thinking?) of bulbs. I'll put them in the bulb bed I created by tearing up part of my lawn, and next spring I'll be rewarded with gorgeous flowers beginning as soon as, or even before the last snows melt and continuing until full summer begins. God willing!
IW, your artist's eye is always wonderful!
