Prayers and good thoughts sent to the good people of Texas. I understand Harvey is going to stall and stay in place somewhat inland for several days, then move on.

24-36 inches of rain is unreal!!

Good thoughts for all those threatened. I hope those who are in the highest risk go ahead, prepare their property as best they can and then find a safe place to wait out the storm.

I have a couple of friends in Huston and several coworkers here at work have family around there, some are leaving some are not. We went through Andrew in Miami in 1992 and that was my wakeup call for me. With the amount of rain expected there I do pray for the ones who are staying.

coopercleaner, I agree. That much rain is almost impossible to grasp. I lived in Austin and one December we had 10 inches in a week. The flooding was awful.

IRISHWHISTLER, bless you for volunteering to help clean up after that devastating storm. Yes, she can be cruel indeed. It is our lot to accept that occasional cruelty and try to come though it with grace and an open heart.

Snowshoe, it would be good to send thos folks in BC some of that rain.

Blackboy98, thanks. The latest model runs now suggest that Harvey could stall for as long as a week. A week! Hurricane strength winds could last until Monday, three days away.

Smartrock, thank you too. Everyone on the coast should have gotten out by very early this morning, after that was probably too late. More than a few didn't, for good and not so good reasons.

katALabs, thanks for your prayers. Good for you that Andrew (25 years ago yesterday) was a wake-up call. There are folks who didn't did not pay attention and take that wake-up call.

An area larger than Massachusetts may get at least 20 inches of rain by next Wednesday, now they are saying possibly as much as 50! inches in isolated areas. That will soften the soften the soil, and the extended period of gale force winds will down untold numbers of trees which will land on businesses, houses, cars, power lines . . . It could be several days before work crews can even get outside safely to begin repairing the widespread damage.

    Woops, didn't realize I'd posted a duplicate.

Jollymolly, glad you moved to a safer location. I hope your place will be OK when you are able to return.
