    Spiders

This guy (girl, who knows!) has made quite the nice home in my yard. The web goes from about 8 feet up into the tree and anchors in 3 places on the ground. Evidently, he's a bit camera shy, as he dashed from the center of the web to this spot as I approached.

Neat. We've seen a ton of spiders this year as the fall approaches. Inside and out. Old Wives Tale's say that means a cold winter. So we'll see.

Do you know what kind he is? And how big is he? There is a big web, and big spider, just outside our kitchen window but when I go out to try to take his photo he runs up to the evestrough and hides.

I love seeing those big webs. There seem to be a lot of them, though, across the path where I walk in the park...where it's slightly shaded and I don't see them. I hate walking through them. Ooh...where is it....I know it's on me...if not the spider, then some still alive prey. Ick.

We used to have a tall Arborvitae near our basement door and there was always a web between that and bushes on the ground. Over the path used to get out into the yard. Most days, it took some dexterity to get down the path. (she seemed to redo the web from time to time...giving us more room some days)

I've seen a ton of spiders and their webs this year but more in NC than around these parts. I've seen both those fat, round brown spiders that look like the guy you shot and those large black and yellow spiders I've always referred to as Garden Spiders, even though I see those brown ones in the garden as well. I'm usually not inclined to get close enough to spiders to get a recognizable photo, though. I admit to being a bit of a weenie when it comes to spiders and snakes although I don't kill them and I don't scream, even if I want to.

I'd say he's about as big as a 50 cent coin, and no idea what he is. I'm not a big fan of spiders, but I know they are good to have around. I've seen two other webs just like this around the neighborhood.

Let's hope so! I have to say I'm a bit more paranoid about spiders after what happened to you.

My attitude to spiders is live and let live, as long as you don't jump on me, LOL. A variety of the critters seem to like hanging out around the front porch; probably because of the light attracting bugs. But the darn things leave legs of a web, face height, so when I walk out the door, I'm assaulted.

Love seeing the networks of webs bejeweled by the morning dew on the top of the boxwoods.
