The wet summer produced so many wildflowers and mushrooms I wanted to take better photos of them than I was getting with my cell phone. And get better ones in low light (where the mushrooms are) and be able to look through a viewfinder in bright light. I know nothing about photography and still have it on Auto. But I'm learning and am pleased with the little pseudo Macro feature this camera has. I've had it only a few weeks but am very pleased with this shot because I was having trouble with yellow flowers in bright light. Anybody want to guess what this flower from my yard is?

Tomato. How pretty.
Please be sure to post when you get mushrooms....I just love them.
Sundance guessed the same as I was going to guess!
I agree, tomato.
Though there have been remarkable advances in cell phone camera tech, a phone still does not match a real camera for taking quality photos.

Nice pic! Not sure what kind of camera your using, but make sure your white balance is set for the conditions your shooting. I started setting mine manually rather than use the auto feature and I find my exposures are much more consistent.
Yes, it's a tomato. I almost hated to post it for fear Kleb and Mr. Kleb would think the season would be longer. However I'm pretty sure this one is too late to produce a tomato of any size worth harvesting.
White Balance, oh my gosh. The OH is still explaining F stops and apertures and ISO to me. I'd like to take a course. I bought the camera (Olympus OM D E M5 Mark11) at Henry's. They have courses but nobody else signed up for the mirrorless beginners one so they cancelled it. I couldn't find any other courses locally, not for beginners. There is a mushroom ID course coming up though.
Yes, I looked at cell phone camera reviews and was keen on the Google Pixel. OH rightly said though, that for the same price (exact same as it turned out) I could get a camera with more features and the ability to add lenses.

Barb, I already have lots of mushroom pics but how about these? These are the first shots with the new camera, I have many with the phone as well. I never noticed these before this year but apparently they are common. Tiny, wee, delicate looking little things, no more than 3 inches high at most. The stems are like horsehair and the caps are like little paper muffin cups. In fact they are called Horsehair mushrooms. I'm so taken with these I want to photograph every bunch I see. I've been risking ticks, mosquitoes and being run over by a bicycle, ATV, dirt bike or horses while I lie on the trail on my stomach to take these. Maybe the horses would jump over me. Oban has acted rather concerned, lying down beside me and looking at me intently and quizzically, "What's wrong Mum?"

I still use the auto setting on my camera, even though I upgraded to a nicer one last year. I like the mushrooms!!

You're brave. I desperately need to upgrade to a better camera but they so befuddle me.
Mushroom picture is great, so tiny and delicate.

Love the starter photos - you'll be amazed a year from now at how far you've advanced! My advice would be to see if they have a Dummies book for your camera or the type you're shooting. The DH would take the camera and the book, read a chapter or two every night, and practice as he read. Read, click, repeat...kind of offputting when you realize your picture is being taken unexpectedly, over and over - ha ha!
