    Heat.

We are having an absurd heat wave. Our normal high temperature this time of year is 21C or 70F. For the past three days the lows have been only a few degrees below our normal high. The upper left panel in the photo shows the outside temperature (top) and humidity (bottom) shortly after noon today. The upper right panel shows the inside temperature and humidity.

Today's high finally settled at 35C or 95F. The highs yesterday and the day before were 34 and 32. Highs Sunday through Tuesday or Wednesday will stay in the 30s before they drop big time. And it's dry. After a dry-ish summer we have had about 1/3 of our normal September rainfall. I felt compelled to drag the sprinkler out, which I haven't done in years, to water in the fall grass overseed and the raised vegetable bed.

Not really complaining, more thinking 'wow what a remarkable hot spell'.

Pretty much the same setting record highs for days and it's not supposed to break until mid week next week. I've been having to water since we did some major garden moving around. Had to laugh last week when I did the laundry. Half full of shorts and short sleeves and half jeans and long sleeves. Next week back to normal, some evenings may get into the 40s and highs in the 60, more like fall.

Same in Ohio - guess we put Gabby's swimming pool away too soon!

Currently on Long Island, NY running in HRC Quad Upland Hunt Tests and it has been terribly hot. We are keeping a close eye on the dogs with regard to hydration and keeping them cool. It has been a tough weekend on the judges, the test workers, the handlers, and most critically on the retrievers.

Yes, NEO had quite the teaser of cooler temps the week before. I'm not a fan of summer. Samson agrees with me. Asher doesn't seem to mind. Temps drop at the end of this week. Sure ready to give the AC a break.

Been very warm here. Lows in the 70's the past few days.

Mike - I was wondering how the dogs were handling the heat up there. Hope all stay safe!

Hi Fran, yes we have also been washing a lot of shorts and short-sleeved shirts!

Ohfermail, no swimming pool here though Fitzi has been dancing through the lawn sprinkler like a child.

IRISHWHISTLER, a tough weekend for y'all.

SamsonsMom, we took the AC out of the window a few weeks ago. I put it back in Friday night.

Barry, for close to a week our low temperatures have been very close to our normal daytime highs.

I haven't watered the lawn in years; our philosophy is to let it go dormant during dry spells. I overseeded some thin spots last weekend, broke down and have watered those areas as well as the vegetable garden.

A bright side of the heat and dryness is that the tomato harvest isn't delayed by wet or cold conditions, which we hope results in Faye's Season From Heck will end a few days earlier than it otherwise might.

Same in St. Louis. Lows are our normal highs and highs are too high, plus we have humidity in the 80s%.

I will finish picking what the deer and heat have left for me in my garden this week.

this weather is terrible for Rocky (and no I don't like heat either!). Same heat as you Andrew.

The kiddy pool is still out but the water keep evaporating! I worry about my poor AC. it's gonna be a very rough 3 days, it can't keep up at peak heat in the day which really worries me for Rocky.

Mike, last night's low was 1 degree C below our normal high. A chipmunk has helped itself to some of our Long Keeper tomatoes.

Tanya, we should see some relief beginning tomorrow and you should get some in a day or two.
