    Nevada Strong

We are a small, small state in terms of population. I live more than 400 miles from Las Vegas, but the shooting has had and is having profound effects upon us all.

    For example:

I went down to United Blood Services this morning. There was no place to park. People were parking their cars down the street and walking to the donation center. The line was out the door and down the walk-way. When I got there a lady was taking names and phone numbers because they couldn't handle any more walk-in donors. They had already shipped 200 plus units of blood down to the hospitals in Vegas. We will have to donate to replenish the blood banks around here.

Americans (and Nevadans) pull together in times like these. Sure makes the folks who try to divide us look small and venal in comparison.

Update: This shooter has a second home in a posh neighborhood just a few miles (as the crow flies) from ours. I hear FBI and bomb disposal units are there.

My wife and I first went to Vegas in 2014 during the NFR's which we didn't know were going on. We will be making our second trip this year in December. We have been so pleased with the hospitality we have been showed by both the locals and other tourists that we keep coming back for more. We joke that it is our home away from home.

We were both horrified by what took place today and were glued to the tv at 6:00 am watching this unfold.

Watching the people lining up to donate blood and hearing the stories of those driving people to seek medical attention or those offering shelter and supplies reminded us how decent people can be in a time of crisis.
    Thanks Everyone!!

There was a guy bringing pepsi and water to those waiting in line to give blood here in Reno. Just plain, ordinary, exceptional, wonderful human beings.

When any disaster strikes, Americans show their true colors. There is no black, white, green, blue, but Americans. Seeing the lines to donate blood in Vegas is amazing, those giving of their time and more importantly themselves.

From what I'm hearing on the news tonight, the man was quite wealthy and had many, many more guns in his second home.

If indeed he acted alone, it is the scariest of attacks. He seemed to have no record, on no watch lists.

My boyfriend and I were supposed to be at that concert. We sold our tickets at the last minute becuase he had a work event come up. We will both be donating blood today which is being shipped from Texas to Nevada.

Our whole community is in complete shock. Major roads are still closed in all directions, the strip is basically closed down. This is absolutely horrific

The tragedy here (indeed in TX, and FL and Puerto Rico as well) has affirmed my believe in the everyday heroism that lives in the hearts of everyday Americans.

The cities' first responders, hospital staff, and many citizens have done and will certainly continue to do amazing work. I am awed by what they have accomplished.

I expect that more than a few of them will be very generous, compassionate when it comes to sharing their knowledge and experience by helping their ilk when the next similarly horrific (and entirely too predictable) event happens.

TuMicks and zd262, thank you very much for giving blood: the gift of recovery and even of life.

I just found out that the shooter and I were members of the same gym and, I'm told, he used to work out there all the time. Creepy.
