UGH, what a mess. Thank goodness you had some protection. I keep a folded heavy cotton blanket in the back of the SUV more for Archie mess.
Funny you should bring this up. The headrest on the passenger side exploded. Yep, that's right. Apparently in the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee the head rest is made to "explode" like a clam shell, making the angle of it better in the event of a rear end crash. That's when it's supposed to open. It did it on the driveway, nobody in it.
Part and labor was close to $800. We have the extended warranty so I called to see how to handle a claim. To my surprise they said it was not covered, "only electrical and mechanical" and they considered this cosmetic. No way was I going to swallow that! Told the girl that I felt it was a defect, even finding others who this had happened to, some when they were driving and it was the drivers seat causing them to swerve on the road. I was nice but firm. Took the car in and labor was free and we are getting back half of the cost of the part which left us with a $200 cost of which $100 was the deductible.
Not as messy as yours but bet it took much more time to resolve.
