New Camera Added To The Fleet

    Aye Mates,
I am sitting at home on a miserably rainy day here in New England not so patiently awaiting the arrival o' the UPS delivery truck. I have been wanting to expand my photographic tool chest for some time to include equipment giving me more "reach" primarily for wildlife related photography, but also for work with sporting dogs and other subjects that spark me interest. Adding to a pair o' really nice cameras that I currently own (a Sony A6000 and a tiny but highly sophisticated Panasonic Lumix Leica DMC-ZS 100) I have purchased a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC - RX10 Mark IV that is slated for delivery today. Effectively, the new Sony will lend me 24mm to 600mm (35mm equivalent) capability with one fixed Zeiss lens that is slated to have outstanding image quality and great image stabilization for still photo's. The IOS range is impressive and the thought of not having to haul a bag of additional lenses around with me whilst afield was a main factor in me selection o' this added camera. Best o' all, it is arriving just as the hunting season is starting to heat up and that will allow me to use it on a number o' upcoming adventures including a hunt on the beautiful Maine coast for sea ducks (eider, scoter, and long tailed ducks). The camera is also suppose to be quite weather tight, but I will be highly protective o' the gear in the harsh environments I frequent as is prudent. The Sony RX10 Mark IV and me Sony A6000 utilize the same lithium rechargeable battery and charging system so having several o' those batteries continually charged should keep me up and running. The RX10 Mark IV boasts the fastest auto focus system currently available and a maximum burst rate o' an amazing 24 frames per second. The Sony menu familiarity / fluency developed with me A6000 should make navigation o' the menu for the RX10 Mark IV a relatively easy transition.

All said, I am looking forward to the enhanced capabilities that this new equipment will provide to me as a visual artist. I hope to have some examples o' still shots posted in the not too distant future.

    Cheers,

Always fun to get a new toy Besides its a gloomy day out so you might as well sit with the camera and play with all the menus. Best of luck with the new camera and look forward to seeing some nice hunting scenes.

Wow. That's rocket surgery, you know? ... way over my head. But I can tell you're excited about it and I know what it's like to get a new toy.

The camera came today and I need to make a trip tomorrow for a new SD card and some lens filters. I want to always keep a UV, ND, or polarizing filter on that Zeiss lens for protection. The camera is an impressive piece of equipment and I will start her up tomorrow.

Geez, I can hardly use my cell and a "dummy" camera.

Do have two beautiful old cameras, one from father-in-law and one from my father. They're of the type that use film. Would love to learn to use those.

    Fran,
There is a growing movement with interests in film photography, I gave me daughter Meg a Nikon I owned and ye might have thought I gave her a new car. It would be cool if ye could do some work with those camera's once owned by family members.

Sounds like a nice piece Mike!

I've still got my Canon A1 that I bought when I was in the UK back in the mid 80's. I was a poor Staff Sergeant with 2 little kids but I still managed to scrape the cash together to buy that camera. Over time I got several lenses, a Sunpak flash, and a power winder (a motor drive was WAY out of my reach). I haven't used it since 2002, but it's been safely tucked away in a case with all the batteries safely removed.

I'm always so glad to hear that I'm not alone with this.

I wonder if the UPS drivers know just how much some of us eagerly await their arrivals. Dan is a lot less subtle about showing his glee than I am. Enjoy your camera...yes, we'll be waiting. (Hmmm....you're a bit like a UPS driver with this. )
