As long as diet is concerned, this guy here is doing a study from 2000-2030 on 3000 raw fed dogs. His website is currently down but he published his research for the first 10 years or so. He does statistics for every breed separately, and the dogs from his study had longer lifespans than average. I don't remember the exact numbers, hopefully his website will be back soon and I'll post it for you.

Personally, I don't think research and statistics are necessary, of course natural is better than processed, of course it puts less stress on the body, of course it has less chemicals and preservatives, of course natural vitamins are better absorbed than synthetic ones.

Food is important, but not the only factor though, I suggest you read a great book by Ted Kerasote "Pukka's Promise", the guy did a lot of search and interviews over the years and put it all in a very interesting book, analyzing all the factors that affect our dogs' lifespan.

Yea well 12.5 is pretty ho hum to me if so. Miss Mata (headed up on 13) has tried to push her lifespan lately by jumping into the concrete part of the canal while my back was turned,,,, closing my gate. Flushed out some Redhead ducks, she did.... Little sh**.
Nothing is carved in stone. Her half sis died at 12 and a few months. My mantra is just enjoy them while they are here. Anything over 10 is a GIFT.
