    Job Advice. Back to this.

    I always post here for advice on this subject because I get a lot of diverse views.
    Last week I was called for an interview-in the lending industry. I have been out of this business for 10 years due to the credit crash. Trying to get back in has not been easy. This company called me and seems to have a great spot for someone coming back in after a long time out. Pay is same as I make now however I currently work 5 minutes from home. That commute is 45 minutes. Trying to weight the pros & cons. During last week as well I had to leave work 2 times briefly for a doctors appointment. Now...I have been called back for a 2nd interview. I think they are going to make me the offer provided I gel well with the processor that I would be assisting. Question is this: How do I ask to leave early again this week??? I do not get personal time here (not quite full time) and its a small office where my boss actually knew that last weeks issues were health related and that there is no further concern in that area now. SO-- what reason could I possibly give to need to leave early AGAIN this week??

    I'd say that my kid is sick (or even that my dog is sick - depending on how understanding your boss is) and that I need to get them to the doctor/vet.

    Say it's a follow-up on your health issue. It's really none of their business and as long as you are making up your work somehow, covering for others, etc., it should not be a problem.

    If I need to make an excuse I usually go with something around the house (ex. plumbing issue need to wait for plumber) or something car related.

    So I told the headhunter I could leave a bit early to be there for a late afternoon time but they came back with "so and so preferred a morning..." I can't go in late and even if I could I would have to do a reverse commute at like 6 am which doesn't work either because I have my daughter...no sitter. Ugh. I'm so disappointed on so many levels, my husband said it wasn't worth it, doesn't support this idea.

    Last time I had a follow up interview I said I had a tech coming to fix the AC. Was too worried I'd jinx myself by saying doctors appointment lol!

    One time when I said I had a doctor's appointment, my manager asked if everything was ok. It hadn't even gone multiple times and it was just my physical. Granted a physical isn't that secretive but I feel like it's not their business so now I usually just say personal appointment or I need to take care of personal business and leave it at that. So far no more questions have been asked.

    I am always concerned that they will ask fro a note...
    Anyway here's what transpired overnight: we agreed on a time to meet however my husband is not on board. I don't know what to do. He is not the supportive type anyway with anything and now it seems he doesn't support my getting back into this industry. I am not quite sure if he thinks it is going to put me steady on my feet so that I don't have to rely on him ( we don't get along and I think he is aware that if put in a much better financial situation that I may take our daughter and China & leave. It is my plan) SO I have to weight my pros and cons here.
    Current job:
    steady work, able to leave if needed for my daughter her school is 6 minutes away) no room for growth and now no room for steady pay increases also there is a lot of ego here, putting me on the bottom of the list (I'm the admin) everyone gets way more PTO. I am bottom, last, more importantly--no team environment.

    New job:
    room for growth both learning a new position in the future and pay, PTO, ability to work from home if needed, sometimes cant leave on time (its a busy industry) oh there is the 45 minute commute which in bad weather sucks. Lengthens the day obviously so I'd have to drop my dd to school earlier and be later getting home to her. However she is getting older, so that wont make a difference in a year or 2 as her school schedule will change when she goes to middle school.

    Same pay to start but factor in the 45 minute commute | gas. That is until I get a raise there yearly or move to a better position. So there is potential there. It takes more time from my day (commute) and more gas yes.

    Please feel free to weigh in-I am looking for differing opinions. Thanks guys

    2 years ago I left a job 5 minutes from home in favor of a higher paying job 40 minutes from home. Less PTO and less responsibility. I’m now making almost $4/hr more, have better insurance, got a bump in PTO, and have a better network of drs in my insurance coverage. Also, my bosses are way more understanding. I’ve never looked back. The commute isn’t even bad. It might be a good move for you.
