I was given HIV for Christmas.

I was specifically told not to say who this person is if I posted it. Suffice it to say that this person works in the medical industry and got this apparently as a promotion. It's effectively a stuffed animal.

We are both horrified and amused in equal parts. In case you're wondering if I actually am in possession of one of these things, here you go! The pic isn't great. There are "eyes" in there somewhere. It seems to have "feet". Who thought of this?

People in the medical field have odd sense of humor. They see things a bit differently than I ever would. My sister is in the medical field and she talks about stuff that I don't even want to know exists or is possible. My mom tells me stories too and I'm floored. I googled your stuffed toy and wow, had no idea! GIANT Microbes | Gag Gifts, Teacher Gifts, Doctor Gifts, Gifts for Girlfriends and Boyfriends I'm not so sure I'd want a gift like that. lol

    Oh, that's too funny. Ewwww.....

I bet some of the recipients give them to their dogs or cats to play with...

    Love your subject line.

OK, that's gross. I have seen stuffed head lice at some schools (not the stuffed crab lice shown there). I'm not sure why, it's not like most people find head lice cute and cuddly. They look only remotely like an actual louse and are a gazillion times larger so not too useful in trying to help parents know what they're looking for on their kid's head.

So, if it was a gift, what was the giver trying to convey in his/her message?

I think those giant microbes are a hoot. One of my best friends has had some bad luck with giardia on backpacking trips in the past and a few years ago I got her the giardia stuffy. She has that thing strapped to the outside of her backpack everywhere she goes and it's a funny conversation piece on the trail - "oh this? he's just here to remind me to treat my water".

We have a similar sense of humor.
