    Meeting Friends at the Hospital

It's a bit scary how many people we know we meet on my broken ankle appointments. Yesterday three of my friends, and one of them met four others she knows. Mine were all patients. All women but other times we have met men, the OH knows. Our generation is falling to pieces, literally, my friends all fell and broke something. Yikes.

I can ditch the air cast, YAY. I now have what they call a stirrup to wear all the time, for I don't know how long. It allows flexion front to back but gives sideways stability. I can only walk on level surfaces so OH will still have to take Oban out. However I got the go ahead to try skiing, skating and snowshoeing, as much as I think I can handle. Cross country, not downhill for the skiing, which is what I do anyway. YAY

My third rehab is tomorrow and the first two hurt much more than I expected. Worse than the break I think, really. That woman (very nice) is trying to restore me to a point I was never at before. LOL.

Are they all there for ankles and legs? I actually learned something yesterday, as you get older one of the first joints your start losing mobility in is the ankles. Which is what leads to a lot of falls and so on in older people. I noticed this in myself as well. I think I have mentioned this before, but I have taken several martial arts over the years. I have always enjoyed it, but I am getting too old to be thrown about and hit all the time. So I started taking Tai Chi. While a martial art it is helpful for balance and muscles and bonus I don't get thrown around and hit all the time. Its very low impact. One of the first things they work on is strengthening your ankles and legs and working on balance. They had mentioned this about getting older and ankle issues and I didn't think about it until you mentioned it here.

That's interesting. There is one other ankle, three badly smashed arms and a hip. That makes five, counting my ankle, one friend with two smashed elbows wasn't there. We all fell and we all were asked if we think we passed out and maybe had some kind of mini stroke. No, we all were just incredibly unlucky. I'm the best off of the bunch of them. We all guess we'll be sent for bone density scans once back to our own Doctors.
