The gallbladder contains bile which is excreted, more so when you eat something fatty, to help with digestion. With very little adjustment, your body can do very well without a gallbladder. My GI doc calls it an almost obsolete organ as long ago a human's meals may be few and far between and the body needed the extra "boost" of the gallbladder to properly digest a large meal which was probably meat.

Gallbladder sludge is thickened bile. The next step is it forming clumps and forming stones.

I'm glad to hear your MD got to give some good news for a change! I hope those mammo follow ups are similarly good news. I hate when one test leads to another, leads to another, and another. I suspect my insurance company hates that cascade of tests more than I. Good wishes for normal.

That's great news. Pancreatitis is not something you would wish on your worst enemy. Also very lucky to have such a good team diagnosing and treating you. That doesn't happen nearly as often as I would like. My niece had issues for over a year with little relief and she works as an ICU nurse. One of her coworkers, a surgeon, recommended a fellow surgeon to take a look. He suggested and then did remove her gall bladder. It's been several years with no further complications or return of the pancreatitis.

Hope the rest of the tests are filled with just as good news.

Your niece is the only other person I have heard of who had relief of pancreatitis with a simple removal of the gallbladder. Pancreatitis is horrible.
