    I need a new hobby.

The shelter I coupon food for got a $4M grant to renovate their building which is huge and in pretty desperate shape. To give you an idea, the fire department will not allow them to plug in a toaster oven in the community room. So this is great.

Unfortunately, they are effectively shutting down to get this done. The kitchen will get done first. This project starts in early March. I was told today that they will be doing lunches with what they have on hand until then and will be using a nearby house to serve lunches after that but they will be very simple since that only has one refrigerator and one stove. The kitchen will be expanded in the main building and they will be escalating their services. This is scheduled for September 1st. At that time, they will need to be completely restocked.

In the meantime, I need a new hobby. In particular, while I'm watching TV. After three years, scanning the sites, ads and apps for deals and planning meals is like muscle memory. I'm already getting twitchy.

How about continuing and getting stuff that has a good shelf life so when they are ready you can help stock.

Just think of how much they will need stocking up when they reopen. Just add a step to check the expiration date and be ready to help them restock. Will any of their simple lunch benefit from your couponing? Maybe you could confine, just on a smaller scale to supplement what they need.

I'm going to wait on them to figure out a better plan. The problem with stocking up now for something that is supposed to be done in September is that I have never had a construction job completed on time so if they run to, say, December, then I've filled up my basement and can't get done what I need to do this summer. We'll see. I've started to explore certifications, etc in my field so maybe that will occupy my time until they're good to go again.
