Selling a Vehicle on Kijiji is interesting

I placed an add on Kijiji to sell a used vehicle "as is" last week. I received probably 80 inquires and on top of that lots of double emails etc.

To highlight a a few of the best:

    - trade for a gun
    - trade for a set of tires to a truck that was later followed up with possibly throwing in a toolbox
    - trade for a snowmobile on the other side of the province that I would have to drive to
    - trade for a snowmobile with no ownership papers - that was a dandy
    - to drive it to a persons place of employment so they could have a look at it
    - numerous trades for vehicles that were older and worse sounding than mine
    - payment plan installments
    - after editing to say I am not looking for trades for household items I had 10 people ask what type of household items I was looking for

I had quite a few serious inquiries and offers and ended making a deal to sell it. It sure was an experience to say the least.
    Thanks Everyone!!

Oooohhhh yes. We have a name for some of them, you know, the ones who set up a time to view the item for sale and then never show up, "kijiji A**holes" I've successfully sold 2 vehicles that were well past their prime and sold as is, but you really need to be in the right Frame of mind to deal with a lot of the replies. And I never put my tel# in the ad, that would be torture.

Asking you to drive it over to where they work so they can check it out? And while you're at that, can you run by a Tim Horton's and bring them some coffee and a turkey bacon club sandwich, they didn't have time in their busy life to put together a lunch for today.

We've sold a few cars, back in the dark ages before kijiji or craigslist, and that was so painful I never want to sell another car or pretty much anything else on a site like those.

For those who don't understand the reference:
Ancaster's Tim Bosma took a ride with two strangers in a truck he was trying to sell and never came back. Dellen Millard and Mark Smich were found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Bosma.

I definitely had Tim Bosma in the back of my head. I asked for a name and phone number so I could see if I could find anything on them. The person I sold it to had an online persona and I knew many people he did.

I got another reply today from a person sounding angry that I hadn't taken them up on their trade for a bucket of widgets.

One thing I found out was that in Ontario they have 6 days to register the car and if they don't there is no real repercussion but your name stays with the VIN until they do, legally. I have to check back in a month and declare that I have sold the vehicle although I already have notified them. It's a real gov't operation at Service Ontario.
    Thanks Everyone!!
