mmmm poutine.....mmmmmm ok now i'm really hungry
Bannock, well, sure, but its not all that common around here, and there are so so many variations on it. I think BeaverTails (sold primarily in Ottawa esp. during Winterlude) are taking that out there to the tourists.
Nanaimo bars, thats just something you've got to try. but I hear finding Kerns's Mustard Powder is hard in the US. (used in the cream part, and no, they don't taste like mustard)
I know that the Smarties are not the same, if you can even find them down there. a friend of my parents' always stocked up when he was in Canada.
I was astounded to see some the crisps flavours when i was in Britain back in 1993- back then we didnt have all the Presidents choice flavours, but we still had All Dressed from most of the major chip manufacturers.
Tim Hortons is like a disease up here - I grew up just outside Hamilton where it all started. They are convenient, I will give them that.
and KD (Kraft Dinner), well, its a staple. not a ketchup fan myself, but lots put it on their KD. Its immortalized in a song by The Bare Naked Ladies "If I Had A Million Dollars" they talk about putting ketchup (Dijon ketchup) on their KD.
I had never noticed that pink Cream Soda was hard to find in the US, huh. Theres also some wonderful "regional" (esp. Newfoundland) flavours by Crush, notibly Birch Beer (think Root Beer) and Pineapple Crush.
Definite must-trys are Nanaimo Bars, Poutine, Montreal smoked meat, and all-dressed chips.
