I work little more than a stone's throw from the St. Clair River which divides Canada from the States. During the winter the river hosts a variety of waterfowl - Mute Swans, mergansers, Bufflehead, hordes of Canada Goose and Redhead, others I can't identify - in the patches of open water. There are also Bald Eagles, drawn by the open water areas where fish might lurk and also by the plentiful waterfowl they can prey upon.
The boss returned from running errands today, said two Bald Eagles were standing in a field just up the road, and did I have my camera? Well yes so I jumped in the car and there they were about 100 meters off the road.
The wind was brisk and gusty and I didn't have a tripod. It was a challenge to hold my Fuji FinePix S1600 still enough to get a somewhat acceptable photo using the digital zoom. This is the best of a not very good lot.
I lived in the States all those years and had to move to Canada to get a good look at these magnificent birds.

We see them at our local parks from time to time. Those lakes give good fishing.

We have one that lives at one end of the lake behind our house. I've only seen it three times since we lived here, December of 2016. I was shocked that they are this far south. We also have an otter, several loons, mallards, Canadian geese and a blue heron. The otter completely threw me for a loop. The first time I saw it, it was two backyards down hanging out with the Heron on the shoreline. I thought that it was odd that the Heron would be so close to a playful dog. I kept looking thinking what IS that? Super playful, running around, in and out of the water. Later that morning, it was in our backyard and that's when I realized it was a river otter. Neat! Of course, I never have my camera on me when this happens.

They're magnificent birds, and we never tire of seeing them - rare, but that makes it even more special. Nice "catch"...

They are all over at my agility instructor's place. They kill several of her newborn lambs each spring. Majestic creatures!

SunDance, I have learned that they are largely fishing birds though they will eat other prey.
thndrkttn they sometimes winter on a reservoir near Austin TX. You can take a tour cruise and with luck see one or more. A river otter, that is cool!
Thank you Lisa!
Fran, aren't they I was a little surprised they tolerated my presence for the five minutes or so i was there.
Nor do I tire of seeing them OHfemail . . .
Labradorks the guy who owns our town hardware store lives on the river. He watched two fight over a fish that an osprey had caught.

I spent a year in King Salmon, Alaska courtesy of the USAF (best assignment I had!). It seemed like there was an eagle in every tree! I did get to see one swoop down and snatch a fish from the river when I was out fishing one evening. Amazing sight. Never got tired of seeing them.

They are amazing to see. I was able to see them daily while in Colorado. I too would never get tiered of seeing them. I love big birds of prey
