Guys! They offered me the job!! I have them a 3 k range and they offered me the lower. On the phone and she said pending my acceptance they would then send the offer in writing. I would like to counter and ask for the mid but how? Is it even ok to reply with that or should I have done that on the phone? Did I lose the opportunity ro counter? I wasn’t prepared because my drug screen isn’t done, I was sure they were going to wait for that before making the offer. Then I need to wait for my drug screen to be complete and then I can give notice at my current job.
Firstly I am so excited for you. Congrats The question I would be asking myself is if there is room for growth and am I willing to start at the lower salary to get my foot in the door. You have been looking for a different job for so long. I am not sure how to bring up the subject. If you think that they won't hire you because of the difference then it may not be worth the counter offer. Just my thoughts. Congrats and please keep us posted

Congrats!
When I was job searching I was told by the outplacement service I was using, companies usually expect a counter. Worst they can say is no. I always give a range but add depending on the total compensation package and roles and responsibilities to keep options open.
Its tough since their offer was in the range you gave, but it depends where in the conversations that came up.
Was there any discussion on roles and responsibilities after you gave the range? Or did you find out more about benefits later in the discussion? If so you could say something like you were hoping for the higher end of the range since there was more responsibilities, you bring skills stronger than the initial conversation alluded to needing.

Well. The range is small and if I countered it would be only 1 k though and that actually makes sense depending on the health insurance. So I’m going to ask that and go from there. I feel like they won’t drop me for asking so it’s worth a shot. I also prefer not to give my notice until all stipulations have been met on their end such as my references checks and drug screening. Now I don’t do drugs of any sort unless you count Advil for the back pain of lifting my dog lol I don’t even drink but I am the person that stuff happens to so I’ll wait to have these things completed.
Wow so nervous and excited!
Congrats!!
Did they discuss the probation period with you? Will there be any chance of an increase in pay after the probation period?

Congrats and hope all goes as you planned.

Thanks guys they didn’t discuss probation period I just took it to be the usual 90 days. The answer Lao will pay for my course to be licensed and there is an increase in December. So maybe I shouldn’t counter...

It sound like a good deal to me. Being licensed will open up more doors for and it will also add value to you as an employee.

Congrats!
Hard decision. Definitely need to calculate the "other stuff" they are covering (and maybe things do they do not!). Another option is to discuss how they work increase in pay. After a year and having finished that course you would be in a solid position to ask for a raise.
Interesting I have been listening to podcasts that say women are not as aggressive with negotiations for salary and that can play a part in the wage disparity between men and women (obviously not the only thing but something to consider).
