Sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith with opportunities like this. I've always looked at change being opportunity.
2 weeks is sufficient. Although I've given as much as 4 weeks when I was working in a senior management position.
Most offer letters I've gotten say contingent on passing background and drug tests so as long as you confirmed everything has been completed satisfactorily giving dates you mentioned is fine. Although you may plan on verbally telling your current employer, I would also follow up with something in writing. You can find example resignation letters online. When I left my previous employer I told them I would follow up on our discussion with an email and send a copy to my personal email address as well.

Updating finally. So I did take the job. It is a satellite office to a fabulous company with excellent pot and benefits!
So unless Tsonga just me and my manager. She is difficult to describe. Not genuine. Not warm at all. Not good at training. Very good at cursing and getting angry with clients quickly. She is there when I arrive every day and still there when I leave at 5 pm. I'm getting the feel I g she just isn't managing her time efficiently because I feel she should be able to work a bit more normal hours,....I hate to talk negative but this has been difficult. She has also contracted her mother as well who does out of office work. There was an issue a few weeks back. She asked me to do something unethical and I declined. She obviously discussed this with her relative because the relative then began making comments relating to the subject. In a ' mean girl' way. I became so uncomfortable that I nearly went to HR. I didn't however for fear that they would turn the tale on me. This blew over for the most part however it still does not feel as comfortable as it should. The last few days she has been much better at showing me things yet still has a crude tone when I ask questions. She speaks with a tone that says I should know this if .I've seen it once.....do you get me? Like not patient at all. She'll goes through my desk when I'm not there -- albeit through files on top of my desk but still-- there's really no reason for that. Way so cold and fake. Hand over my mouth as I type because it's not nice of me but yet it's true. I find it so difficult to have respect for people like this and feeling outnumbered is not cool. Being that it's such a great company- neither of us would want to leave. I've no choice but to make this work. And yet it's hard. I find n myself feel I g stressed and sad over going to work because of her. But I know I'm lucky to have gotten this chance. How do you get along with people who aren't quite so nice?

O.M.G. I thought I had corrected that twice rotf!!!!!!
Going to work when miserable about the situation isn't good. Luckily when that has happened to me, it's been mostly project specific so I knew it would change. It it was going to be long term situation and the company overall is good, I try initiating a transfer and/or try to wait it out for a reorganization. For me there have been a few times leaving the company is an option I've considered as I don't think working in a toxic environment is worth impacting my health due to stress and I don't want to get up every day hating to go to work. I never had to go that route, but for me just knowing I have that option in my control helps me cope with situation and wait things out because inevitably things will change, it's just a matter of time.
In the meantime, when I've had to work with someone I don't respect, I try to do my best job possible, treat the offending party professionally, do what I can to transfer out of that team or wait for a reorganization. If it were me, I'd try to get along and don't play into her ways.
Stand your ground on ethical decisions, and if she continues with that kind of stuff I would decline doing what she asks every time and maybe approach those requests with a "how can we accomplish the goal another way". Of course this is assuming the action she wants to take, not the goal is unethical. If the goal is unethical, you need to look at whether being unethical is just her or corporate direction as it may show it's not such a "good" company. If it isn't corporate direction, first talk to her about being uncomfortable with what she is asking and if things don't change next steps for me would be talking to her manager or HR.

Thank you. I'm feeling like waiting it out is the route right now. She has mentioned needing only 6 more years til retirement. That's too long to be miserable but yet I agree with you that things will inevitably change somehow for one of us. Thanks again guys- wish me luck!
Do not hate saying this but get a note that says "its just a job". i think once i put that in to my fav saying alot of issues disappeared. You say its a great company and the benefits are awesome so wait it out.
I left a amazing company with crappy management a year ago and do not regret. the benefits are not up to par but i am happy . But i gave it 6 yrs before moving on. Also new jobs all have some rough transition. I had a hard time in my new job as the only person i reported to is my boss and he spoke to me once every 2 weeks for 20 minutes. Everyone else worked for me and wanted to me give direction etc. It was a hard transition. Now i speak to him even less but i run his company for him as well i could.
just the other side of the coin. Coming from a cooperate structure where you have boss after boss it was jolt having no one.
i have had like 12 job and i am 42 ... i have come to conclusion there are no perfect jobs and perfect boss . Just me ! at the end. The rate i am loosing friends and family to cancer i am really questioning the whole benefit packages.
