    A new prospect...again

the never ending saga of my trying to get a new job continues. I recently interviewed with what has turned out to be a fantastic company. Rigorous hiring process. First interview then a 2nd and then an online DISC assessment-personality type thing and then today a 3rd interview but this was phone and to go over the DISC assessment. So when the HR lady called me to schedule todays I asked her how much time to allot for since I planned to go into work Current job-right after. She said 30 minutes. So today, past the 30 minute mark I had to ask the woman how much longer we'd be because since this is my only job at the moment I cant really saunter in late...she said she was fine with that and that she would have the other HR lady schedule a time for us to finish what may be only 10 minutes or so. I thanked her profusely.

Did I just throw this op away??? omg....she said she completely understood, she may only be 10 minutes more but its up to me. My reply was that this boss would not be happy if I walked in late unplanned and she said she understood. Clearly I was conflicted and had to make a decision. I hate to be stuck in these types of situations. During the 2nd interview I had to duck out of my current job and I was gone for 1 1/2 hours. Part of the reason why coming in late today wouldn't have been good. this stuff happens to only me. lol

You tried to be proactive. I really hope that this more than anything shows the HR person that you are committed to the job you have and hope that works to your advantage.

    Good luck

I think you did right by standing to the 30 minute allotment. It shows that you care about your current job and have a good work ethic, that's very important because few people tend have it these days. When your followup session comes, I think it would be a good idea to allow more than the 10 minutes so you can explain why you had to leave the first time. If I were interviewing you, I would appreciate knowing first hand the reason for the followup session.

Happy you are getting close to your dream job and as Jollymolly says "GOOD LUCK"!!!!!! And stay positive.

I think you showed a good work ethic by being concerned about going in late to you current job your as well. The fact that they were ok with rescheduling to complete the discussion is a good sign too. I also think the fact you went over the usual time meant there was some good discussion. No expert but think that is also another good sign. 10 minutes is an awful short time so I would definitely plan on at least another 30 minutes so you don’t feel rushed. Plus maybe you can use the time after to discuss next steps in the process and reiterate why you would be a good fit and add value to the team/company.

Most hiring managers understand how hard it is to interview around your current jobs’s schedule. I’ve tried to always do them as early or late in the day as possible and always add time I expect to be away from my current job.

    Good luck!

Thanks guys. So they decided to just go ahead with the background check and reference check without furthering the phone interview. That’s a good sign! It makes me so nervous to put down my current place but they did say that if I don’t want them to contact my current employer that’s fine that all I have to do is put no by the can we contact? Which I did and double and triple checked. fingers crossed. The PTO is great, next to see the offer.

    Fingers crossed!

i agree with the above, especially if you were specific beforehand and there wasn't a ton of options for scheduling. But totally allot at least 30 mins even if the rest is just said to be 10mins

OK so currently they are preparing to verify employments and references. I asked that my current employer NOT be contacted because well obviously I am still here. So in lieu of confirmation from a person they would like to see proof such as w2s pay stubs, etc. from 2009 when I started this job. I am not sure I have that stuff at home still. I am a great keeper of records but I am also a great NON keeper of clutter and such things that I feel I wont need again :O. IF I don't have that stuff what am I gonna do??

Would you have copies with your taxes? Also most hr departments can send out old copies of w2s.

I always say no to contacting my current employer. Not that there is anything to hide, I just don’t think it’s a good idea to let them know I am looking for a job outside the company. If the company uses a 3rd party service to confirm you were employed by them, I’m ok with that since they don’t contact anyone as a reference (all they say is when you worked there, your title and last salary).

Do you have copy of your tax returns? If so you should have your W2’s. Pay stubs may be available online. Not sure if this is still possible but several years ago I was able to download past tax return information from the IRS website. I needed it to confirm income and it was much easier to do that vs sending a copy of my tax return printed out.
