It was like a Russian car crash video.

Was going to work the other morning. It was dawn so still pretty dark. Heavy wet snow had begun a few hours earlier. Still snowing, visibility not great, highway wet and edged with slush. I eventually worked my way up to the speed limit and was happy with that.

The driver behind me was not happy with that. Crowded me more than I liked and eventually swung out to pass. Uh, OK, sure, whatever.

The car got about three car lengths ahead, swerved a bit to the left (maybe hit slush), overcorrected to the right, skidded sideways then all the way around to backwards directly in front of me. Headed towards and onto the right shoulder, and backwards into the ditch which was more than deep enough to completely swallow the car.

Several thoughts went through my mind as all this happened.

'Dumb _____.' [I'll let you fill in the blank.]

    'Yeehaw.'

'Easy easy Andrew don't mash the brake.'

'Just like a clip in a Russian car crash video man wish I had a dash cam.'

I stopped as did several other vehicles. Thankfully the car was upright. Front bumper (or was it the rear?) was off, he was climbing out, head bumped but mind clear enough to correctly answer my question about what day it was (checking for a concussion). No blood and he moved OK, complained of no pain. He called the provincial police to report to crash. Some of the onlookers were his co-workers on the way to work and were going to stay a bit so I left.

Dude was very fortunate he stayed upright, and didn't go in the ditch sideways.

Scary thing to see. Glad he was not hurt. Some people just don't get it when driving in snow.

Scary. I think the bad driver learned his lesson...the hard way. Thankfully no one was hurt.

That's why my husband got dashcams for both our cars. Some seriously scary driving these days. It was nice of you to stop.

Yikes. So glad he got well past you before spinning out. Just a skiff of new snow here this morning.

Fran, it happened so fast there was no time to develop fear, only a quick fright.

Black Labbies, I also hope so. He missed at least one day of wage work.

janedoe I've wanted a dashcam for a while and have picked out the one. I felt obligated to stop and provide first aid (I'm formally trained), hence the 'What day is it?' question.

Snowshoe, yep. Had he skidded into me both of us would have been off to the races.

I read quote on one of those Russian car crash videos that said something like.

"What the hell? Does everybody in Russia own a Dash Cam?"
    Thanks Everyone!!

In Russia, it’s the law to have a dashcam in your car.

That’s a really scary situation, glad no one was hurt. I also bought a dashcam for my car. Too many idiot drivers around.

REally? I mean, in Russia, the law. I have often thought it might be nice to have a dashcam. I might have gotten a half decent photo of the deer that came out, stopped and stared at me. But, wouldn't be handy to have one on each side and facing backwards too?

I have been looking at them on Amazon and many of them have a front and rear camera. If you look under the Deals of the Day section they seem to be listed in spurts.
